As an important part of China's foreign policy,China's policy towards Japan would be influenced by the dominant foreign thoughts of the CPC.After the founding of New China, although the CPC members represented by Mao Zedong changed from revolutionaries to ruling ones, many thoughts and ideas formed in the revolutionary era will inevitably be inherited, which will constituted the ideological legacy of the practice of internal affairs and diplomacy.Among them,"revolutionary diplomacy" thinking with revolutionary idea and the concept of class struggle as the core had become the fundamental starting point for CPC members to understand the region and the world and formulate foreign policy during the post war. What's more, this thinking also affected the formulation and implementation of New China's policy towards Japan. Therefore,on the basis of previous study in China and Japan, this paper clearly takes the "revolutionary diplomacy" of CPC as the perspective, through extensive collection and detailed study of relevant archives, documents and leaders' discourse, analyses the origin of ideological, the process of formation, the considerations of strategic, the formulation of goal, the design of program and operation mechanism of the policy towards Japan, shows the strategy of revolutionary struggle in its diplomacy with Japan, sums up experience and reflects on some problems in past practice. This paper is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, which introduces the object, status, methods and structure, innovation and shortcomings of this study. The second chapter summarizes the ideological origin of China's policy toward Japan, that is,the "United Front View toward Japan" formed by the War of Resistance Against Japan and the "Revolutionary Japan View" formed by the Civil War,which constituted the basic thinking of CPC to understand Japan and communicate with Japan, and became the ideological legacy of New China's policy toward Japan.Chapters 3-6 are the main body of this paper.Chapter 3 discusses under the changes of the struggle situation in domestic and abroad after the founding of New China, and on the basis of the struggle principle of opposing American imperialism & Japanese "reactionaries",the CPC had strategically implemented the two principles of "Promoting Revolution" and "Peaceful United front" to Japan, and the three policies of "Supporting the JCP","People's Communication" and "Promoting Officials by the people".Chapter 4 discusses the causes and manifestations of the gradual changes in diplomatic thoughts since the late 1950 s,re-recognizes the essence of the Kishi Cabinet's policy toward China, and analyses the changes of China's policy toward Japan from "Promoting Officials","Breaking off the People's Communication " to "Cutting without Interruption".Chapter 5 discusses the multiple considerations and objectives of the policy of "Political and Economic Separation" in the first half of the 1960 s under the background of deterioration of the surrounding situation and turbulence of the internal political and economic situation, analyses the essence of the Ikeda Cabinet's policy toward China.Chapter 6 discusses the struggling and interaction between China and Japan during the Cultural Revolution, and outlines the civil exchanges between China and Japan on the eve of the transformation of the Cold War in East Asia.In each period of Chapter 3-6,this paper not only analyses the specific application of revolutionary struggle strategy in the diplomatic struggle against Japan, but also shows and analyses the relations and differences between diplomatic thought and policy-making,policy-making and concrete implementation, public speech and actual policy. The last chapter is the conclusion of the full text.It summarizes the policy-making towards Japan in the historical entanglement between "revolutionary idea" and "realistic dilemma",analyses the influence of "revolutionary diplomacy" on the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, and reflects on some remaining problems.
