For a long time, rural women in China have been regarded as vulnerable groups in terms of political participation at the grass-roots level. However, women play an important role in the development of rural politics, economy, culture, society and ecology. Most scholars believe that rural women's political participation is limited by the traditional culture of discrimination against women and social concept of gender inequality habits, that is,pay attention to the traditional inequality of gender culture restrictions on women. In fact, although there are physiological differences between men and women, both men and women enjoy equal rights in political construction.Rural women themselves have the capability to participate in politics. The main reason why they are at a disadvantage in political participation is that they are deprived of the capability to participate in politics.Rebuilding rural women's capability is an important guarantee to improve rural women's political participation. This paper takes empirical analysis as the main research method.A total of 3046 rural women's questionnaires from 11 cities in Shanxi Province and statistical tables on the proportion of rural women in village-level organizations were retrieved, and the situation of rural women's political participation was studied under the framework of Amartya Sen's capability theory. This paper focuses on rural women's participation in village public affairs, their willingness to run for election and their election to village cadres. It is found that rural women are not actively involved in public affairs, their willingness to run for election is not high, and their election to village cadres is not satisfactory.Regression analysis of the influencing factors of rural women's political participation shows that demographic characteristics, family economic status, social opportunities, political basis and living environment all affect rural women's political participation, and the latter three have the strongest impact on it.Based on the theory of capability and the analysis of the present situation and influencing factors of rural women'spolitical participation, this paper holds that in order to improve the level of rural women's political participation, besides increasing the proportion of rural women in village-level organizations in accordance with laws and regulations,it is necessary to improve the political basis of rural women, increase their social opportunities and optimize their living environment.
