Kuwait has gradually become the protectorate of the United Kingdom since 1899,when the rulers of Kuwait signed an Anglo-Kuwaiti Agreement with the United Kingdom. After independence in 1961,Kuwait established its regime as a dual monarchy constitutional government,And established a special system of succession to the throne,Kuwait's practice of parliamentary democracy has officially begun. Before the gulf war,Kuwait had six National Assembly elections,The opposition's political participation has gradually deepened, and in the process,Congress has been disbanded twice by the Emir,Influenced by Lebanon's civil war and the Iran-Iraq war,Kuwait domestic political instability began to emerge. In the early 1990 s,the Gulf Crisis caused an unprecedented disaster in Kuwait and its political stability was also affected. The different responses of the Kuwaiti parties have had a profound impact on post-war national reconstruction. After the Gulf War,leaders who had fled abroad returned to form a new cabinet. The Emir was forced to reconvene Parliament in order to uphold his political legitimacy, and women who had resisted during the Gulf War continued to pursue their political rights. The situation of the Shiites and their relationship with the government have also changed somewhat with the Gulf crisis. In the early postwar period, six political factions emerged in Kuwait's political field, including the Islamic Constitutional Movement,Political parties are nominally not allowed, while they played the role of the political parity,Kuwait's party politics began. With the rise of the opposition in parliament, the confrontation between the parliament and the cabinet intensified.Since the Gulf Crisis,Kuwait's political stability has become increasingly complicated.Kuwait's politics,in particular, has entered a period of continuing instability since 2006.First,Kuwait's authoritarian regime has been weakened by the gulf crisis, the 2006 succession struggle, the Arab spring and the wave of democratization,to the detriment of its political stability.Second, the development of the National Assembly was even more tortuous. Before 2006,Kuwait held elections for four parliaments. The contradictions and conflicts between the government and the parliament led to frequent cabinet changes, and the parliament was once suspended or dissolved. In 2006,Kuwait experienced a dispute over the succession of the throne, which changed Kuwait's tradition of inheritance for many years. In the same year, the reform of the constituency finally led to the dissolution of the National Assembly.Since 2006,influenced by regional hot spots such as the "Arab spring" and international terrorism,Kuwaiti politics has entered a period of continuous turmoil. The development of parliament has become more tortuous, and the cabinet has also been questioned and reorganized for many times.Third, since the post-Cold War era, sectarian conflicts have become more intense.Sunni Muslims have publicly accused Shiites. The political development of Shiite Muslims has become institutionalized and politicized, and the rift between them and the government has deepened. From the first parliament in 1963 to the beginning of 2003,the parliament was dissolved only twice for 40 years. However, from 2003 to 2013,the parliament was dissolved six times,of which five times since 2006.The dispute over the succession of the throne in 2006 made a profound social change in Kuwait. The "Arab Spring" since 2010 has caused political turmoil in Kuwait. Therefore, since the post-cold war era,Kuwait's political stability has become more uncertain, and its political development has entered a period of continuous turmoil. On the one hand,Kuwait's political stability is affected by multiple internal factors,For example, the single economic foundation, intensification of sectarian conflicts, the crux of traditional culture, the prominent demographic problems and so on;On the other hand, its political development is also affected by many external factors, and The interference of big countries and the instability of regional situations have had an important impact on its political stability.Kuwait's political stability shows certain vulnerability and complexity.Although its political development is in the forefront of democracy among GCC countries and influenced by diversified political thoughts, its political stability will be still very difficult in the future.
