The Research On Intervention Of Group Work In The Urban Social Integration Of “The Elder Drifters”

Since the reform and opening up,China’s economy has developed rapidly,and the process of industrialization and urbanization has been continuously accelerating.Under the background of the obvious trend of family migration of floating population,the elderly people’s preference for the traditional family pension model,and the needs for skip-generation raising,a special group of “the elder drifters” has emerged,which is different from “Beijing drifters” and “Shanghai drifters” who are the youth floating groups.With the implementation of the comprehensive two-child policy,the scale of the elder drifters will be growing,and the living situation of the the elder drifters in big cities has attracted widespread attention of the society.Their integration difficulties have also become an important topic in the field of social work.In order to deeply understand the social integration status of the elder drifters,the author selected H community in Beijing as the object of investigation.The in-depth interviews and community observation methods were used to investigate the elder drifters living in H community,and we found that the elder drifters living in H community were facing the integration dilemma such as low economic level,linguistic and cultural differences,social communication constraints and psychological identity.According to their needs of social integration,this paper tries to design six group activities by using the methods and techniques of group work,aiming at helping the elder drifters alleviate loneliness,enhance community participation,regain self-confidence,and live a happy old life in a strange land.Finally,through the process evaluation and result evaluation of the group activities,the effectiveness and shortcomings of the group work intervention are analyzed,and some specific suggestions are put forward to promote the social integration of the elder drifters.
