Research On Lefebvre's Theory Of The Production Of Space

In the first half of the 20 th century,the urbanization movement brought the western world into the stage of urban social development as a whole,and cities became the main fields for modern people to inhabit and move.The production logic and capital logic of capitalist society act on space,and the urban problem has taken the place of the industrial problem as the dominant problem in the contemporary western world.Lefebvre observed that the critique and reflection of modernity should take space as the front,and put forward the overall theory of space production on the basis of examining the traditional spatial cognitive system,combining the contemporary urban theory and the critical method of Marx's historical materialism.According to the concept of "relativity" space,Lefebvre introduced "relational" space in the two-way interaction between space and production,space and social form,and further pointed out that this kind of relational space is produced,but also produces its own products,thus introducing its own critical purport for abstract space.Abstract space takes modern cities as carriers,and has the characteristics of repeatability,reproducibility and visual visibility.The generation and maintenance mechanism of these characteristics is based on the concrete functions of abstract space in terms of means of production,objects of consumption,class struggle,political tools,etc.However,capitalism itself and its science and technology are still short of the ability to deal with space problems on a large scale,so abstract space is characterized by commercialization,fragmentation and so on and has its own inherent contradictions.Lefebvre further pointed out on this basis: to jump from "abstract space" to "difference space" as a political goal.As the contemporary vision of Marxist's critique of political economy,the theory of space production not only injects new vitality into Marxist's critique of political economy,but also its "relativity" concept of space and " We can expect the future society" and other ideas have a great impact on subsequent urban Marxism.At the same time,its criticism of realistic problems is also conducive to the construction of China's local urban development paradigm.However,Lefebvre deliberately avoided the role of production relations and split the internal relationship between productivity and production relations.It is inevitable that the theory of space production has certain limitations.
