Since the 1970 s,a number of new parties have gradually emerged in Western European politics: right-wing populist parties. In recent years, rightwing populist parties in Western Europe have made unprecedented breakthroughs in national elections. Many of them have entered into the political system,or joined with mainstream parties to govern,or even become governing parties, which is known as the "earthquake" in western European politics. The factors behind the rise of right-wing populist parties in Western Europe are profoundly complex, including economic recession, rising unemployment, welfare cuts, terrorist attacks, increasing immigration, etc.,but these are not enough to fully cover the reasons for the rise of right-wing populist parties in Western Europe. This paper holds that the cultural reasons for the rise of right-wing populist parties in Western Europe cannot be ignored. In the past half century, identity politics characterized by the emphasis on the cultural rights of minority marginalized groups and related multiculturalism trends have emerged in countries such as Britain,Sweden and France in Western Europe. These minority groups have been committed to defending their unique languages, religious beliefs, cultural practices and seeking recognition by the mainstream groups, even requiring equal status with the mainstream culture and religion, which has resulted in the dissolution of the mainstream culture and the Balkanization of Western European society. It is this situation that provides new contents for the mobilization of the right-wing populist parties in Western European countries. The exclusivism, nationalism and anti-multiculturalism advocated by the right-wing populist party just conformed to the wishes of the people.Western European society is also experiencing a change from materialistic values that focus on material enjoyment to post materialistic values that focus on quality of life and personal development. This transformation caused resistance and opposition from traditional forces. The mainstream political parties did not respond to these people. They turned to support right-wing populist parties. The refugee crisis has led to a sudden increase in Muslim immigrants in Europe, triggering a conflict between mainstream culture and islamic culture in Europe and becoming one of the boosters for the rise of right-wing populist parties. This paper analyzes the connotation, development, cultural origin and influence of the right-wing populist parties in Western Europe. In recent years, the right-wing populist parties in Western Europe have been very eye-catching in the elections.Whether in the domestic elections or in the EU parliamentary elections, their turnout has been growing and their influence has been expanding.Investigating its cultural roots is mainly related to the increasing number of Muslim immigrant groups in Western Europe after the end of World War II,the implementation of Western European multiculturalism policies, and the transformation of post-materialistic values in Western European society. The rise of right-wing populist parties has an important impact on the whole European society, party politics and integration. This paper argues that the right-wing populist parties in Western Europe may continue to increase their influence in the short term.but in the long run, their development is limited by internal and external conditions, there is little chance of replacing mainstream parties.
