The new mathematics curriculum reform of compulsory education in China has been carried out for 16 years since 2001 with the graduation of 14 successive junior middle school students. We need to pay sustained attention to the process of implementation of the new curriculum with continued implementation of “Compulsory Education Mathematics of New Curriculum Standard(2011 edition)”. We should carry out sustained reflection and summary during the process of putting new mathematics curriculum into practice. The whole research question is “ What?s the situation about the implementation of the new mathematics curriculum in junior high schools in Gansu province?” More specifically, this study focuses on the following four questions: 1) Do teachers identify and utilize new mathematics curriculum standard? 2) Do teachers and students identify and adapt to new mathematics textbooks in junior high schools? 3) How to carry out teaching activities in junior high school mathematics? 4) How to implement the evaluation of mathematics curriculum of junior high schools? The author adopted literature analyses, survey research and comparative analyses in the research. The research subjects were 123 mathematics teachers and 890 junior middle school students. The conclusions drawn through in-depth investigation and analyses were as follows: 1) Teacher recognition of the extent of the new curriculum ideas and goals have been positive changes, but teachers use the new curriculum standards are still inadequate; 2) teachers and students have acquired whole recognition of new mathematics textbooks, but there is a big controversy of teachers teaching content arrangement; 3) With the way teachers teach and students learn positive changes, but teachers give students space is still insufficient; 4) Evaluation methods gradually diversified, but still affected by the examination system.Based on the above conclusions, some suggestions put forward on the reform of mathematics curriculum at the present stage in our country are: 1)strengthening their ability of studying new curriculum as well as paying more attention to the guiding role of new curriculum standard; 2) Mathematics textbooks should be adjusted in part, to enhance the development and construction of supporting resources; 3) Build more communication platform for students, strengthen the exchange of teachers and students as well as students and between students;4) Examination and evaluation of the reform should be to catch up with the speed of curriculum reform as soon as possible; 5) Educational administrative departments should increase investment in rural schools, teaching equipment should keep pace with the new curriculum.
