An Analysis Of The Professional Dilemma Of Social Workers In Community Service

After 10 years of rapid development,China's social work has entered a professional and critical stage of development.At this stage,professional service has become one of the focuses,especially in the community sector,that the difference hetween social workers and community workers and also professionalism of service has become a hot topic.Although much is researched on this subject,few Stands in the position of community workers when talk about the professionalism of social work services.In this study,I focus on the professional dilemma when carry out social work in community from the perspective of community workers.Based on the theoretical framework of the systematic theory,this study chooses the "Good-neighborly Home" project purchased by a community of M city as the case study.I follow up the implementation of the project by interviewing,observation and consulting the literature material.I found that:1.In the community service,social workers aim to complete the project target which pursuit quantity in case work,group work and community work and thought to be professional,but don't know how to achieve professionalism.2.Social work services meet professional dilemma such as lacking of professional knowledge and skills,failure to communicate with community,receive little recognition and restricted by system.3.The influential factors of social work service's professional dilemma is that social workers is young and inexperienced,usually misunderstanding of professionalism and under unscientific management.In addition,their work is not distinguished from communities and the purchase as well as supervision system is imperfect.4.The professional dilemma social work service meet is related to the existing community system.There are differences on the goal and orientation between social organization and community that the former pay more attention to professional services but the latter more to management.After series research,I have advises on improving the professionalism,including:social workers improving their professional quality and service skills,more communication between social organization and community,enhancing the recognition and support of the government and the community for social work,a perfect purchase and supervision system of social work,making a good choice on service content and object,and a good connection with community daily work.Limited by experience and ability,there are some limitations in the selection of the interview as well as the collection and analysis of the research materials,especially in the discussion of the research,there are so much needed to improve.There are six chapters.The first chapter is introduction,which introduces the research background,questions and significance,and focus on plight of professional in social work service.The second chapter reviews relevant literature,which introduce the 10 years of rapid development in China's social work,and it's relationship with and importance to community development,and then show my focus.The third chapter introduces the theoretical framework,methods,object and plan of the research,and select the "Good-neighborly Home" as the case in this study.The forth chapter introduce the findings and the discussion in the fifth chapter.There is a brief overview of the conclusions and the limitations of this study are also described in the last chapter.
