As an important part of the course,the textbook directly reflects the content,arrangement and the objective of course;thus the textbook is considered as a key point to successfully implement course reform and archive expected goals.The textbook are variety with different advantages and characteristics,so it is better to comprehensively reference various textbooks to keep advantages and select the essence and discard dross,to enormously benefit reform of primary education in China.In this study,the PEP biology textbook for high school from mainland that of Kangsi textbook from Taiwan are selected as study objects since two editions of the textbook are similar in many ways;the methods of comparative study,questionnaire survey method and interviewing method etc.are employed in study to compare the editing idea,design thoughts,content,illustrations and other aspects that included in two versions of textbooks.The objective of this study is to find out the similarities and differences between two version textbooks to offer references for textbook compiling in mainland for high school.In light of comparison between two versions of textbook,the following similarities are found,such as two versions of textbooks are complied on basis of some unified curriculum standards;the textbooks are compiled according to policy of many textbooks on one guideline;both two versions lay emphasizes on basic knowledge education and application of IT knowledge.However,the own characteristics for two versions is also obvious.For PEP edition,it is compiled with picturesque language,more teaching activities and more colorful content are included and arrangement of content is more characterized;the design concept is more inclined to students-centered and providing more possibilities for students to learn in variety mode;and it also concerns the relationship between knowledge and actual life.For Kangsi edition,it is less difficult and lay stress on ‘double-bases' teaching,the illustrations included is more exquisite and denser which benefit interest training and autodidacticism for students;also the introduction and appendixes are notable characteristics of Kangsi edition of textbook.Based on above analysis to comparison between biology textbook for high school,the enlightenment for textbook compiling of PEP edition in future is that fullydeveloping the characteristic of rich and diverse content existed,and strengthen then introduction,illustrations,postils to play a more important role in quality improvement of textbook,and more illustrations with detailed instructions are recommended to be incorporated to help understanding knowledge,especially the physical pictures;also logical enhancement and content detailing are also recommended to help knowledge learning and foundation strengthening in-depth from the root,in addition to ability training.
