Reading is not only a direct way to obtain information,but also to enhance the ability of collecting and dealing with information.Reading is also an important carrier of mental development.The purpose of this paper is to explore ways to improve the status quo of junior high school students' extracurricular reading.At the beginning,the existing research literature has been sorted out.In the second part of this article,the author introduce the historical background,value,characteristics and influencing factors as detailed as possible to give the reader a basic understanding of the connotation of extracurricular reading.In the third part of this article,the author investigates the status quo of junior high school students' extracurricular reading in the form of questionnaire.At the same time,some teachers and students are interviewed to understand the status quo of extracurricular reading in a more comprehensive and in-depth way.Then the data are briefly described by statistics,and the problems of junior high school students' extracurricular reading are analyzed.the purpose of reading guidance and evaluation is to improve grades,which narrows the students' vision;reading liberty is not high,whichis not easy to inspire students to read interest;lacking of reading time is difficult to achieve reading standard.Then,in the fourth part of this article,the author analyzes the causes of the problems:instrumental rationalism,the rationality of school management,the guidance of teachers' reading and educational concept.Based on the above research,in order to change the current situation of extracurricular reading,create rich,free,and promote the development of students' extracurricular reading.At the end of the article,the author puts forward some strategies or suggestions to improve the current situation of junior high school students' extracurricular reading: to respect students' subjective consciousness,to transfer extracurricular reading content,to explore effective reading guidance,to ensure adequate reading time,and to establish an based on student development evaluation system.
