Research On The Relationship Among Middle School Students' Physical Exercise,Ego-identity And Meaning In Life

In recent years,Chinese citizens are committing suicide at an alarmingly rate.Investigation shows that China has the highest suicide rate in the world in 2014 with an apparent low age tendency.The cause of teen suicide,to a large extent,is because teenagers lack a clear understanding of themselves.They are confused about their future and are difficult in finding the meaning of life,thus tend to commit suicide at a younger age.By using the method of questionnaire,the paper surveyed over 600 students from two middle schools in Wuhan regarding the present situation of their physical exercise,ego-identity and life meaning,discussed the difference of them in demography variables such as age,gender,family parenting,etc.,and then further studied the possible relationship between the three variables.The results of the study show,(1)The exercise of middle school students are at moderate-intensity level,and there exists discrepancy in gender;Male students got higher scores than female students.Grade difference are more significant.Middle school students' scores are higher than high school students.Family parent,one-child or not has no remarkable influence on each dimensions of physical exercise.(2)Current self-involvement > future readiness of commitment > past crisis in the ego-identity of middle school students.Whether one-child or not,there are no significant differences in all dimensions of self-recognition.In dimensions of present and past,differences are insignificant in gender,but remarkable in grade.At the same time,gender differences are notable in the dimension of future readiness of commitment,while grade differences are small.Different family parenting has huge impact in dimensions of present and past,but influences the dimension of past crisis.(3)Middle school students have a high sense of the meaning of life.The scores of middle school students in every dimension of the sense of life meaning are higher than the average level.Gender differences are significant in the dimension of life freedom.Whether one-child or not,the differences in the senses of life meaning are insignificant,but the differences are remarkable in grade.There are significant differences in every dimension of sense of life meaning in terms of different family parenting.(4)Every dimension of physical exercise has significant correlation with that of self-identity and sense of the meaning of life.Current self-involvement and future readiness of commitment are significantly correlated with every dimension of sense of life meaning,so are past crisis with life quality and life freedom.(5)Current self-involvement and future readiness of commitment are partial mediators among exercise intensity and life quality,life goals and also life freedom.Past crisis is a partial mediator between exercise intensity and life goals.
