Since the 18 th National People's Congress of the CPC Central Committee has bee held,the excellent traditional culture of China has been put on a much more important position as well as cultural confidence has been promoted in a higher point.The traditional culture has got great support and promotion in many aspects from the national policy to the traditional festivals,from the mass media to the TV program.At the same time,the latest version of The Standards of Curriculum on High School Education(2017 edition)advocates that the excellent traditional cultural elements should be included in teaching to encourage students to inherit and carry forward the culture and spirits of our nation.Meanwhile,the quality education and the development of core ability play an important role in reforming the current curriculum,which means the new curriculum requires to cultivate the students' comprehensive thinking and develop them in all aspects.Hence,the application of the ancient poetry in geography teaching will be benefit to connect the different subjects.On the one hand,it can help students understand the poetry from the perspective of geography.On the other hand,it also can lead students to learn geography knowledge from the ancient poetry.This combination not only can develop the students' comprehensive thinking and geography understanding,but also can make them better to inherit and carry forward the excellent culture of our nation in new era.This research is based on the geography teaching class of high school and the writer is a researcher as well as a teacher in geography class,which means that the writer is also an operator of this experiment.By doing a survey,the writer takes two classes with near same level as the experimental class and the control class.In the experimental class,the ancient poetry is applied in geography teaching while not any action is taken in the control class.By contrasting the geography grades and statistics of investigation in two classes before and after the experiment,the paper tries to analyze the relations between many aspects including grades change,students' interest in geography and understanding in poetry and so on.Therefore,before the experiment,it is very important to choose the classes for keeping the variables as few as possible,which can be used as twins for describing the target classes.So the target classes are satisfied to take learning level,the gender proportion,and the teaching teachers except the head teacher in the nearly same level.The result shows that there is not an obvious difference between the two classes' grades.But there is a slight increase in improving the grade and influencing of the interest in geography.And it also has some achievements on dictation of the ancient poetry.The innovation of the research is to take this experiment in the high school class for a whole semester,which is a continuous,stable and long process of the experiment.Although the contrast results are not much different,the students still make some progress in geography learning,geography grade and poetry learning.In a word,the application of ancient poetry in geography teaching is a new trend on the curriculum reforming,which also meets the requirement of the standards in the new curriculum and improve the students' core ability.
