Surfing(including long boarding,short boarding,and stand up paddling)as a surface water sport has attracted an increasing number of folks in China in recent years.With the decision to include surfing as a sport in the 2020 Olympics,China has accordingly target the education reform to focus on the development of extreme and water sports industry.Colleges and universities are thus seen as the cradle for talents that carry the responsibility to contribute to the prosperity of the nation and the realization of the "China dream”.The attempt to implement surf and SUP courses through higher level education PE curriculum is an opportunity to further the education evolution that cultivate inter-disciplinary talent.In order to examine the environment and key elements that enable a success implementation of surf and SUP courses through higher level education PE curriculum,this essay used various research techniques including: literature review,interview,experiment,survey,and statistical analysis,to come up with the following conclusions:(1)The PEST analysis reveals factors that effect the implementation of surf and SUP courses through higher level education PE curriculum in China are mostly favorable.All of the teachers and students who are interviewed expressed support to the implementation of the courses.(2)The design of the surf lesson varies from 16-32 hours of instruction depending on factors including: local weather,wave season,etc.The design of the SUP pool course varies between 24-32 hours of instruction subject to the student ability.(3)Safety should be considered when choosing the location to practice surf and SUP courses;Swimming pools in universities and colleges usually meet the requirement to carry out SUP pool courses;the equipments for the surf and SUP courses should be chosen carefully with soft or inflatable boards to ensure the safety of student and durability of the equipments.(4)Since the goal is to popularize the sport,junior and mid-level surf and SUP instructors from clubs might be more feasible in fulfill the need to introduce surf and SUP sport to as many colleges as possible;further,with appropriate training,college-level physical education instructors should be able to teach less challenging SUP pool courses.(5)Those who participate in surf and SUP courses should be able to swim independently or have taken swim lessons prior to the course;the course should not only focus on cultivating practical water skills of students,but also improving their safety awareness.(6)The assessment of surf and SUP courses,as an elective curriculum,is skill and proficiency based,in which there will be no paper-based exam.The assess of retention of theoretical knowledge following training can be done through practical competency of the sports.
