In the third grade of primary school,students just begin to make composition.During this period,they have many problems in their practice works.And amongst those problems,the “ Log-like” style out stands the rest,resulted from their weakness in the Suitably Detailing and Abridging Skill(SDAS)while making composition.The focus of this research is about how to improve the SDAS of students.Concerning this focus,this thesis studies five questions which,respectively,are as followed: The First,How to diagnose the Non-SDAS.The Second,How to classify the Non-SDAS.The Third,What are the causes of the Non-SDAS.The Forth,what is the solution and strategy to the Non-SDAS.And the last,How to apply the solution and strategy,and how is the outcome?According to the samples gathered in this research,it is initially identified that the diagnosis of the Non-SDAS should be based on wether the content of a composition is corresponding to the topic or not.In a composition,the content,which is related to the topic,should be detailed,while the less relevant should be abridged.Any breach of this rule should be considered as the Non-SDAS.The Non-SDAS could be sorted into: the Totally Abridged,and Misapplication of the Suitably Detailed and Abridged Skill(SDAS).The Totally Abridged refers to the so-called “Log-like ” composition whose content is all trimmed without corresponding descriptions on the topic.And the misplacement of the SDAS happens when students put more details on topic-irrelevant content,but abridge the relevant because of distractions,although they know that there should be difference in conciseness in their composition.Based on the analysis on the composition samples gathered from students,the main factor of the Totally Abridged lies in the student's weak ability to set a topic,more over,a lack of structural concept is also a common cause of the Non-SDAS.The main strategies to strengthen the topic setting ability are to give model compositions,to properly understand the given topic,and to make a thought-guiding map.The above two factors are also the causes of the misplacement of the SDAS.What is more,no knowing how to write a detailed content is another main factor.In addition to the mentioned strategies,this thesis develops Description Strengthening strategy for the students with weak ability of detailed description so as to improve their enrichment skill in making composition.For the purpose of examining the accuracy of factor analysis and the feasibility of strategies,as to the two sorts of Non-SDAS,this research chose two specific objects as an individual practice research.The result shows a success in solving the Non-SDAS and an enhanced awareness in detailing and abridging skill in students' composition practice,however,the result is not consummate due to its limited time and age characteristics of the objects.
