Status Quo Investigation And Countermeasure Study Of Postgraduates' Personal Digital Archiving In China

Since the 1980s,with the development of information technology and the popularity of Internet,people have accumulated more personal digital archives from their learning,work and life.As individual's original records in social practice,personal digital archives not only can act as evidence and reference,but also carry memories of individuals,families and society.It is of great significance to give them a long-term preservation.However,compared with the preservation of paper archives,personal digital archiving(PDA)is more challenging due to its personalization,complexity and randomness.By conducting PDA projects,establishing PDA systems and holding PDA meetings,comprehensive theoretical research and practical exploration about PDA had been done abroad.However,due to the relatively late adoption of PDA tools and the inpact of traditional concept“archives mainly serve for organizations”,the study of PDA is just beginning in China.There are misunderstandings of PDA's conception and values,many people are short of archiving ability as well as archiving methods,which restrict the PDA's practical progress.Based on the status quo of PDA research in home and abroad,this paper analyzed the conception and theoretical support of PDA firstly,then chose postgraduates in Wuhan University as respondents,and investigated the status quo of PDA practice of college students from five aspects as basic personal information,the production and distribution of personal digital archives,the awareness of PDA,the behavior of PDA and the challenges of PDA.We can conclude the four main problems in PDA:Although the college students have a higher awareness of PDA,the differences between different grades and disciplines are obvious.Many students are techno logical optimists.Those who realize the importance PDA lacks of real actions and can only use single strategies.The protection ofpersonal privacy and information security is still challenging.It requires multilateral efforts from individuals and institutions to solve these problems,including institutions take an advanced intervention in PDA progress to improve students' PDA awareness,students view the archiving techno logy dialectically and make rational use archiving tools,using various strategies and regularizing PDA behavior,tacking multiple measures to protect personal privacy and information security.
