Population Aging And Enterprises Export

As China's population aging becoming more and more serious,for the domestic labor market,it is inevitable that the total labor supply will go downward and Chinese enterprises will face higher labor cost which results in the impact on their production and business activities.China's economic growth is still deeply dependent on investment and export while its export advantage of products is still largely due to the cheap and abundant labor resources.If China loses its cheap labor,the dominant position in the international market will be difficult to maintain.We could look for a breakthrough from the aging population in cracking the problem of getting old before getting rich.Based on the traditional theory of comparative advantage,this paper uses the differences in age-related skill stocks influenced by different age structures in different regions in China as a source of comparative advantage to explore the impact of regional aging on the export of local enterprises.The results show that the changes of skill stocks possessed by people with different ages can have different effects on the export of local enterprises.Specifically,under the influence of population aging,enterprises in the age appreciation skills-intensive industries will increase their exports while those with physical skill-intensive industries tend to reduce their exports.We use the data from the Chinese industrial enterprises database.Based on the data of 29 industries in 31 provinces and regions between the year2005 and 2010,We use general fixed effects model,the Tobit model and Heckman two-stage model separately examines the effects of changes in skill stocks brought by the aging population on the export of local enterprises.Using different alternatives for age variables,the results are still robust.This provides a completely new perspective for Chinese exporters to find a way out under the inevitable tide of population aging and grasp the opportunity to take the lead in industrials.Therefore,under the background of aging,the optimization and upgrade of export-oriented enterprises towards the age-appreciation and skill-intensive industries will be conducive to their rapid development.
