With the development of education and teaching reform,the national and social demands on the quality of teacher training are becoming higher and higher.The relevant departments of education carry out the improvement of teacher education through various ways and means.As a unique approach to teacher training with Chinese characteristics,teaching skill competition plays a more and more important role in the training of pre-service teachers with its scientific principles of "practicality" and "teacher subjectivity".This paper investigates the role of teaching skills competition in the group of pre-service teachers through sorting out the basic teaching skills competition forms and related contents of pre-service teachers in middle school and combining with questionnaire survey and interview.By combing the investigation,the following conclusions are drawn:(1)As a teacher training model with unique characteristics in China,the teaching skill competition is in accordance with the basic theory of learning theory,such as behaviorism,cognitivism,constructivism and so on,which accords with the theory of teacher' s professional development,and is a scientific method of teacher training.(2)The aims of teaching skills competition at different levels are slightly different,not too much to promote the mastery of the basic teaching skills of pre-service teachers,deepen the reform of teacher education,improve the practical ability of pre-service teachers' education,and improve their interest in employment.For the purpose of improving the quality of pre-service teachers' education,high-level teaching skill competitions often have the purpose of displaying the achievements of pre-service teachers' education and promoting the exchange of experiences between schools and pre-service teachers.(3)The competition items of pre-service teachers' teaching skills competition generally include:”simulated teaching","teaching design","present a teaching plan","improvisation" and so on,among which "simulated teaching" appears most frequently in all kinds of competitions at all levels.Speaking lessons is also an important item in the competitions in recent years.(4)At present,teaching skill competition plays a good role in the process of training pre-service teachers in our country,because it takes "simulated teaching" as an important item of evaluation.Therefore,it has the most obvious effect on the improvement of pre-service teachers" "language organization skills",and has a good effect on "classroom questioning skills","instructional design skills" and "modern educational skills",but has relatively little effect on "blackboard skills".(5)Most pre-service teachers have a positive attitude towards teaching skill competition,and think that teaching skill competition should be regarded as a"regularization" project in the process of teacher education.The young teachers believe that the participation of pre-service teachers in teaching skills competition is of great benefit to the improvement of their teaching ability.In a word,teaching skill competition plays an important role in the training process of pre-service teachers based on its practicality.
