"School adjustment" refers to a larger adjustment or merger of schools or majors within or among colleges to integrate educational resources.The adjustment of departments in Colleges and universities reflects both the training objectives and the needs of talents concerning political,economic and cultural development at that time.That change in 1950s plays an significant role in the formation of China's contemporary higher education system.In the early days of People's Republic of China,the adjustment of departments by colleges and universities in Shandong Province is an indispensable stage in the history of its higher education development.Based on sorting out the archives and historical materials of the "department adjustment" in Shandong colleges and universities and consulting the previous research results,this paper has carried out the related research to the "department adjustment" of the colleges and universities of Shandong in 1950s.Chapter One elaborates the background,methods and significance of the study and takes the "department adjustment" of the University of Shandong Province in 1950s as the research object,systematically arranging the literature of the "department adjustment" of the University of Shandong in this period.Chapter Two,based on the literature review,discusses the origin and reasons of this adjustment from the promotion of the situation at home and abroad,the internal requirements of the university to eliminate its own shortcomings and the three aspects of the ideological transformation of the intellectuals in the new China,the two angles of the national and Shandong Province.Chapter Three,based on the rich historical materials,from the structural changes of universities in Shandong Province,the changes in the Department of colleges and universities,and the reform of colleges and universities in the three aspects of the implementation of the "department adjustment" in Shandong Province,expounds the implementation of such changes.Chapter Four explains the impact and evaluation of this adjustment further from the positive and negative aspects,the adjustment for the national construction of professional personnel laid the foundation,playing the potential strength of colleges and universities and enriching the assets of the colleges and universities.However,the adjustment of personnel is relatively large,affecting work and life of teaching staff,also the resistance of university faculty.In the long run,it restricts the free development of academics,weakens the influence of the comprehensive university and leads to the marginalization of the humanities and social disciplines due to the establishment of special education copying the Soviet Union and making the mode of talent cultivation simplification.Based on the study of the origin,specific implementation,influence and evaluation of the "department adjustment" in Shandong University in 1950s,the following conclusions are drawn:(1)establish an educational model to serve the planned economic system;(2)form a training mode to imitate the exclusive education of the Soviet Union;(3)strengthen the party's leadership on education;(4)weaken the internal development logic of higher education.Through the exploration of "department adjustment" in Shandong's colleges and universities in 1950s,the reform and development of higher education in the important period of the current new and old kinetic energy conversion should respect the internal logic of the development of higher education,serve the needs of the economic and social development actively,and deal with the relationship between the general education and the special education.We should expand and implement the autonomy of colleges and universities.
