With the development and progress of the times,the education and teaching concepts have constantly being updated.Under the guidance of the new curriculum concept,teachers should cultivate society-needed talents who can adapt to the development of the times,being able to learn on their own,and being creative.The way of thinking and abilities of the students become particularly important.In the daily teaching process,teachers should change the education methods,for instance,changing the traditional teacher-centered class into student-centered class,and cultivate students’ habits of think positively,being diligent in practicing and learning from the perspective of lifelong learning.Therefore,exploring new teaching methods,changing students’ previous learning and thinking methods and cultivating students’ ability of critical thinking are crucial.As a new thinking tool,mind map uses a central keyword as its starting point to connect various knowledge points,ideas or other related items in the form of radiation.It can express knowledge by means of graphics,and convert monotonous text information into visually intuitive and highly organized image information.From point to face,it progressively displays the internal relations among knowledge,which is logically represented.The generation process of the knowledge system can effectively develop the students’ brain potential,promote the development of students’ abilities of thinking and creation,and improve students’ learning interest and ability.In the practice of geography teaching,mind map is used as a tool to sort out the knowledge of high school geography systematically,and to find out the various links between various knowledge points,so as to organically combine physical geography,human geography,and regional geography.It could excavate the root causes and geographical principles behind the geographical phenomenon,and construct layers of geography knowledge,and closely associate geographical phenomena with geographical principles and geographical concepts.Through mind map training,students could develop the conscious of learning geography,improve their geography learning habits and efficiency,and then optimize the learning effects.The construction of knowledge not only helps students to acquire solid knowledge,but also trains students’ innovative and divergent thinking,which has a positive effect on students’ overall development.Based on the above,with the example of “Water on the Earth” in the geography textbook of senior high school,this paper,aiming to use mind map as a learning tool,adopts literature review,observation,case study and experimentation methods to apply mind map in the processes of re-class preparation,class teaching,after-class review etc on the theoretical approaches like constructivism,knowledge visualization,information processing,and humanism.Mind map is fully integrated into everyday teaching so as to guide the students to learn how to use the mind map to construct knowledge to achieve effective and efficient learning.This paper adopts the combination of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis to set up a control group and an experimental group.Before and after the experiment,questionnaires were delivered to the experimental class,and the results were analyzed in detail.By analyzing the integrity and scientificalness of the mind maps collected pre-class and post-class and studying the score difference of the experimental class and the control class,and with the help of independent samples T test conducted SPSS,the results could reflect that the differences in students’ situation and ability of knowledge construction,and help us to explore the impact of mind map on teaching effectiveness,thus to confirm that the mind map could improve teaching level and quality,students’ knowledge and learning abilities and have a positive impact on the overall development of the students.
