Nowadays in the times of knowledge economy, science and technology develop rapidly, but the development of society needs talent and the key of talent training is knowledge and ability. The key to master knowledge and ability is to master thinking ability, so thinking ability is the most important of cultivate talents and for the sake of thinking ‘teaching’ is an important goal of current education. Mind mapping as a tool of thinking, introduced from abroad can develop the brain potential and the students’ thinking ability effectively. Mind mapping is made up of lines, symbols, text, color and graphics elements, such as to visualize the storage, organization, arrangement, study, review and memorize information. It is based on the related way of thinking style that will help the construction of knowledge system. Mind mapping is widely used in every field abroad, while it is still in the stage of research in the field of education in china and its application and practice are very little. Most of the regions that the research involves concentrate in the developed cities, while mind maps study and practice teaching rarely in the central or western cities. Mind mapping is still in the stage of knowledge and understanding. Its practice research is not enough in-depth and lack of theoretical support.Therefore my thesis is based on schools of western region and my research relates to applying mind mapping teaching practice to the natural geography and region geography of high school by group learning and students’ autonomous learning in teaching. The thesis studies how mind mapping promotes the construction of high school students’ geographical knowledge by using literature method, experimental method, questionnaire method and interview method. First study the ontology of mind mapping and research the theoretical basis of students’ knowledge system. Second develop mind mapping teaching strategy, teaching plan and teaching design through "day", "chapter", "special" type of knowledge as examples. Then carry out the teaching practice based on mind mapping. At last, come to the conclusions, and analyze the conclusions scientifically by quantitative analysis. The conclusions conclude:(1) Mind mapping can help students construct knowledge system.(2) Mind mapping can help students understand and memory the knowledge system.(3) The mind map is helpful to improve the students’ learning interest and learning achievement.(4) The mind map is helpful to arouse the students’ association and creativity. Through apply mind mapping to research the construction knowledge system of high school geography. On the one hand, it can help to deepen the understanding of relevant theories of knowledge system construction. On the other hand, it can help to promote to use mind map to construct knowledge system of teaching practice, promote reform of geography education and training more useful talents for the society.
