With the development of ICT in education, people gradually realize that either traditional classroom teaching or online learning has its advantages and disadvantages. And then blended learning which complements advantages of both has emerged.Blended learning, which cannot be carried out smoothly if without the support of excellent online course and platform,is a new learning mode that combines online learning and traditional classroom teaching with the aim of maximizing the learning effect.Massive Open Online Course called MOOC has become one of the hot topics among the field of education because of its advanced teaching philosophy, complete teaching steps and structure design, high quality learning resources and qualified team of teachers and scholars, but at the same time the quality of MOOC has been questioned due to its high rate of drop-outs and low completion rate. This study aims to integrate MOOC into traditional classroom, which will not only help improve learning effect but make up the limitation of MOOC.The subjects of this study are 72 first year postgraduates majoring in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages in S University, all of whom have participated in the course of "Intercultural Communication".Research questions of this thesis include how to design and implement the course by integrating MOOC into traditional classroom? What's the effect of blended learning based on MOOC? What are the problems existing during the teaching process? What solutions can help improve the blended learning design based on MOOC?This thesis first reviews relevant theories and current research status of blended learning and MOOC,which constitutes the theoretical foundation for blended learning design. Before the implementation of this experiment, the author adopts questionnaires to investigate participants' needs and expectations for this course and interviews the teacher to further confirm the learning needs. The "Intercultural Communication" MOOC launched by S university on Futurelearn provides researchers or teachers an opportunity to design and implement blended learning based on MOOC,which helps change the teacher-centered situation caused by traditional teaching and which improves the learning effect.Based on needs analysis,a blended learning course design is formulated and the research is conducted.A total of 72 subjects participate in the experiment,36 of whom have engaged in blended learning based on MOOC and serve as treatment group while the other 36 who still take the traditional teaching method are the control group. The result of the experiment is analyzed though questionnaire surveys including ISS and student's feedback about the course along with interviews and observation with the help of SPSS.Results show that the ICC of the students from the experimental group is more significantly improved than that of the control group, which proves the effectiveness of blended learning based on MOOC.Besides, most participants are satisfied with blended learning based on MOOC but issues like learning supervision needs to be improved.
