With the on-going advance of higher education informationization, it is gradually found out that either traditional classroom teaching or Web learning has its advantages and disadvantages. And then blended learning theory appears in educational circles, which complements their own advantages mutually. Blended learning is a brand new teaching strategy blending multiple leaning theories and learning strategies. Carrying out smoothly of blended learning cannot do without the support of excellent online courses and platforms. MOOC is a massively open online course, which not only provides a variety of top-level excellent courses, but also design-customized course platforms. In recent years, MOOC rapidly becomes a hot topic in educational technology relying on advanced teaching idea, excellent course resources and unique course design. In this paper, the blended learning mode based on MOOC is established, which combines blended learning and MOOC under the direction of related blended learning theories. The researching work carried out is as follows:(1) Analyzing deeply the related theory of blended learning. In the paper, the definition and connotation of blended learning were deeply analyzed. Then applicableness supported by multiple leaning theories in blended learning is expounded, which builds up theoretic foundation for designing blended learning mode based on MOOC.(2) Analyzing and researching on MOOC. Three large MOOC course platforms are analyzed comparatively from their development, features and course modes and it was determined that the research is carried out on Coursera platform. The course modes of Coursera platform were studied and analyzed from the suitable blended learning point of view.(3) Establishing blended learning mode based on MOOC. According to guiding ideology and design principles of blended learning, design flowchart of blended learning based on MOOC was proposed. And on this basis blended learning mode based on MOOC was established and frontend analysis, learning activities, and learning evaluation were respectively designed in detail.(4) Applied research of blended learning mode based on MOOC. Taking data structure and algorithm course for example, the concrete blended learning activity plans were designed and applied to practical teaching on the basis of analyzing learning contents and teaching objectives and taking into consideration learners’ characteristics. Finally, the teaching effects were analyzed by means of related data statistics and systemization. The researching results show that blended learning mode based on MOOC can widen learners’ view and motivate their learning initiative.
