Purpose After10-week flag football intervention, the effects of different BMI children on physical fitness, physical activity and physical self-esteem were observed, which provided a valuable reference for future selection of related sports and promotion of children's physical and mental health. Methods A total of 128 children aged from 9 to 10 years old were recruited.According to BMI,they were divided into normal weight group and overweight/obesity group.Sixty-five children were in intervention group and sixty-three children were in control group.Subjects and parents signed the informed consent form after understanding the purpose and significance of the experiment. The intervention group received a10-week of twice weekly,60-minute flag football intervention. The heart rate was monitored by Actiheart during intervention and exercise intensity was controlled at60% ~ 90% HRmax. The control group did not participate in the intervention. The subjects were tested for physical fitness, including height,weight,20-m shuttle run, grip strength, vertical jump,1 min sit-up,1 min skipping rope,50-m run,sit-and-touch.Physical activity was monitored by Actigraph GT3 X accelerometer.Physical self-esteem level was tested by "Children's physical self-esteem scale".SPSS22.0 was used for statistical analysis. The difference between the variables of the intervention group and the control group before and after intervention was compared using the repeated measures analysis of variance. The correlation of changes in physical fitness, physical activity, and physical self-esteem was compared using Pearson correlation analysis.p<0.05 indicates that the statistics are significant.Results1.After 10 weeks flag football intervention, normal weight boys' 20-m shuttle run(29.27±8.60? 39.20±5.20 laps),1 min sit-up(29.13±6.86?39.13±8.26 times/min),50-m run(9.72±0.52?9.37±0.54 sec),vigorous intensity physical activity(VPA)(18.52±3.56?19.37±5.96 min/day)and physical activity dimension(2.81±0.74?3.67±0.71)were significantly increased compared to control group(all p<0.05).The normal weight girls' 1 min skipping rope(124.00±23.96?137.21±27.04 times/min)was significantly increased compared to control group(p<0.05).2.After 10 weeks flag football intervention, the overweight/obese boys' 50-m run(10.29±0.92?9.95±0.64 sec)were significantly increased compared to control group(p<0.05),and overweight/obese girls' 1 min skipping rope(113.30±18.79?127.10±36.00 times/min)was significantly increased compared to control group(p<0.05).3.In boys, there was a positive correlation between 20-m shuttle run and VPA,overall physical self-esteem(r=0.307,0.364,all p<0.05),and a positive correlation between 1min sit-up and VPA,physical activity dimensions(r=0.413,0.485,all p<0.05).In girls, the 50-m run was positively correlated with the speed dimension(r= 0.583,p<0.05).Conclusions1.After 10 weeks flag football intervention, both normal weight and overweight/obese children' physical fitness, physical activity, and physical self-esteem have been improved, especially in speed fitness and muscle endurance. And the cardiopulmonary endurance,VPA and physical activity dimension in normal weight children have been improved too.It is suggested that we should control the different exercise intensity in different BMI level children.2.After 10 weeks flag football intervention, the physical fitness of boys has a covariant relationship with physical activity and physical self-esteem,but the understanding of self-esteem lags behind the changes of their objective indicators in girls. It is suggested that in order to carry out related activities in the future,it is necessary to strengthen the positive guidance for children of different genders and improve their subjective cognitive ability so as to effectively promote the coordinated development of physical and mental health.
