Along with the development of social development and audio-visual images,humanity have already enter the time of image.As described in the concept of ‘time of image',‘compared to word reading,image reading is more convenient,intuitionistic,and directly perceived through the senses,even with aesthetic pleasure virtually'.In order to fulfill the request of the time of image,a revolution of the visualization in paper media has set out.As a consequence,picture book,a publishing form with an easy access and comprehension,stands among visual paper media.For the specific physical and psychological characteristic,picture book became the primary and necessary component in reading behavior of early-aged students.Thus,this research was performed to analyze the specification of picture book reading of students as to summarize the existing problems and the exact cause for them,so that the promising significance was expected.This research was based on a variety of literature on the reading and teaching behavior researches among early-aged students.Twenty-two students of the first year in a primary school was collected as study members,the research material was chosen with <a house with a hundred floors>,and the research strategy was set up from a number of previous related researches.Then the research was carried out focusing on images,words and relationships out of picture book observation,reality association and virtual imagination out of picture book imagination,opinion and emotional presentation out of picture book comment,and language,action and activity out of picture book utilization.Clinical interview was used to explore the real thought of the students with no pre-set questions and forecasts and related information was directly collected from the interview record to analyze the specification and existing problems.Another clinical interview was carried out with parents respectively to collect individual information on reading habit as an additional support for this research.The information of the interview record was analyzed and couples of conclusions were summarized.Viewed from picture book observation,students presented a medium reading capability with little attention to words,with brief awareness of the interaction between objects and under a very individual rule.Viewed from picture book imagination,students presented more reality association than virtual imagination and both kind of imagination was narrowed under a materialization of the subject for a picture book.Viewed from picture book comment,students were able to tell specification of the color,composition and image within a picture,students selected the reading material mainly following individual interest leading to a subjective opinion toward the reading material,and the emotion of students may function as another factor on their opinions toward the reading material,where an empathy was obvious.Viewed from picture book utilization,students were able to partially or entirely react and repeat the content related to the picture with related information in store and for utilization,and object in a picture book was a very important seed for the imagination of students.The existing problems were finally extracted as lack of common sense and awareness,diverse concentration within reading behavior,lack of reproductive imagination,and opinions mainly based on subjective element but objective element.Thus,couples of recommendation were proposed for creators of a picture,parents and teachers,aiming at a better reading process of a picture book would hopefully cultivate the capability of information extracting and expressing,leading to a better reading comprehension of students.
