As an important subject of students' learning,mathematics plays an important role in cultivating students' key competencies.Now we need to focus on the cultivation of students' mathematical literacy.As one of the key points of Mathematical literacy research,the assessment of mathematical literacy is significant.The research content of this study include two aspects.Firstly,this study is according to the PISA's and B.C.Performance Standard's evaluation framework,refine the assessment framework.Then combining the results of literature review and the assessment framework,this study forms the new questions and scales.The B.C.performance standard-numeracy is widely adopted in British Columbia,Canada.So it is reliable.This study makes a survey of 232 primary school students in four schools in Shanghai and gets the status and characteristics of numeracy that fifth graders were obtained.The research question of this study is: how to develop the assessment tools and analytical framework for the mathematical literacy of fifth grade students in China.What is the overall performance of the mathematical literacy of the fifth graders in Shanghai? What is the performance of Shanghai's fifth graders in "number and algebra","graphics and geometry" and "statistics and probability" ? What is the performance of Shanghai's fifth graders in the "concept and application","method and reasoning","precision and preciseness" and "representation and communication" ?Main research conclusion of this study are as follows.This study initially formed elementary mathematical literacy assessment framework,on the basis of this framework,assessment tools can be formed.Students in fifth grade in Shanghai are in good condition and most students are in the "meet expectation" and "fully meet expectation" level.Under the background of different knowledge,students have a better solution to the calculation problem,the answer to the geometric problem is second,and the answer to the statistical and probability questions is the weakest.Students perform best on the "concept and application" dimension,but there are also some deficiencies.In the "precise and rigorous" dimension,students generally perform well,and some students have problems.In the "method and reasoning" dimension,most students will only choose the conventional problem-solving strategies,which lack flexibility.The students' performance on the dimension of "representation and communication" is inferior to that of the other three dimensions.
