Affected by their own obstacles,children with special educational needs usually have trouble adapting to new environment.At the same time,the great differences between the two stages of preschool education and primary education also offer great challenge of school adaption for special students.Therefore,the problem of freshmen adaptation is common for students in special education school.By compiling The Freshmen adaptation Assessment of Students in Special Education school,this paper studys the freshmen adaptation from two angles including learning adaptation and social adaptation.It finds that(1)Children with special educational needs have freshmen adaptation problem,and learning adaptation is slightly worse than social adaptation.(2)Of learning adaptation,students have more trouble adapting to study habits.And of social adaptation,students have more problems in interpersonal communication.(3)The different symptoms of special students also have a significant influence on their adaptation ability.Students with mental retardation do better than other types of students.The faults between preschool and primary school bring out students' adaptative needs.Students studied in different preschool environments,which cause the different level of faults they face.The influence of different aspects of faults between education settings could be concluded by comparing students with different adaptation ability.Besides,the different standpoints and expections between parents and teachers could also lead to the children's difficulty in freshmen adaptation.Combine the results of the freshmen adaptation assessment with teacher interview,observations and questionnaires,it is found that(1)the faults in learning,behavior,and expectation have more influence on freshmen's adaptation ability.(2)the expections of parents and that of teachers are more identical in social adaption,and teachers pay more attention in this area.It is set as an important goal for special education school to improve the freshmen's school adaptation,which family cooperation is also necessary.Therefore,researcher investigated the strategies to deal with the students' adaptation problems by teacher interview,parent interview and case study,analyzing the effectiveness and the difficulties in the process of handling.Suggestions are put forward for special education schools to cope with the problems in freshmen's adaptation.
