Urbanization is an important way to achieve industrial transformation, maintain economic growth, solve livelihood problems, and narrow regional differences. To achieve the goal of long-term social stability, prosperity and growth,Xinjiang must rely on urbanization.Since the core of urbanization is people-oriented,people are not only the main body of economic activities, but also an important force to promote urbanization. However, the different types of population age structure play different roles in the process of urbanization.Based on this idea, this paper studies the influence of population age structure on urbanization in Xinjiang. This paper,by combing the relevant research results and theories of population age structure and urbanization at home and abroad, finds that the age structure of the population affects the urbanization level indirectly through factors such as population transfer, industrial transformation, labor supply, and consumption levels. In view of this, this paper systematically analyzes the age structure and urbanization status of Xinjiang population, and uses the spatial econometric model for empirical analysis to study the impact of the age structure of urban population on urbanization in Xinjiang, and draws the following conclusions:(1)Population age of Xinjiang The structure is already aging. The population structure of the ethnic minority and the Han nationality is severely ageing, and the ethnic minority population is relatively young. In terms of regions, the northern Xinjiang region has entered an ageing stage, and the southern Xinjiang region has an adult population age structure.Compared with the entire country,Xinjiang has a "high birth, low death, high growth" population reproduction characteristics.(2)If the current fertility model and death model are maintained, the proportion of children and the elderly population in Xinjiang will increase, while the proportion of working-age population will decline.(3)The level of urbanization in Xinjiang is relatively low, especially as a relatively large number of ethnic minorities and southern Xinjiang.(4)There is a phenomenon of “local club group” in Xinjiang's population age structure and urbanization.(5)The urbanization of a region in Xinjiang has been significantly affected by the urbanization process in its surrounding areas, and has shown a positive spillover effect.(6)The demography coefficient of children in various regions of Xinjiang has a significant reversal of its urbanization process, and its role has been strengthened;the increase of the labor force coefficient has a more significant role in promoting the urbanization process, and the intensity of its role has gradually increased. The influence of the elderly population's coefficient on urbanization has changed from positive to negative. In order to balance the population age structure and urbanization of Xinjiang, based on the actual situation in Xinjiang and the research conclusions of this paper, the following suggestions are suggested:(1)Actively promoting the birth control policy of “two children in cities and towns, three children in rural areas” and improve policy support measures In areas with low fertility rates.(2)Promoting population movement between the north and the south in order to optimize the spatial distribution of population age structure.(3)The core areas of southern Xinjiang will vigorously develop diversified labor-intensive industries, increase employment channels, and attract relatively large numbers of laborers in northern Xinjiang to transfer to the southern, and exert the multiplier effect of industrial agglomeration.(4)Enhancing the quality of population in southern Xinjiang and fully stimulating the potential of the population.(5)Adapting measures to local conditions and rationalizing the direct effects of foreign capital utilization, government participation, and other factors on urbanization in Xinjiang.
