As a carrier of historical knowledge, high school history textbooks are important medium for history education. Its evolution and development has always been of highly concern by the community.Since 1949,the compilation and publication of PEP history textbooks have undergone six historical periods: Initial Exploration,Breaking the Old and Establishing(1949 — 1956),Tortuous Development,Paying attention to contemporary history and ignoring ancient history(1957 — 1965),Class Struggle,Stagnation and development(1966 —1976),Eliminating confusion,Recovery Periods(1977—1985),Preliminary Development,Multiple versions of syllabus(1986—2000),Curriculum Reform,Breakthrough Innovation(2001—present).Analyzing the writing changes of textbooks in different periods,we can not only learn from experience but also provide guidance for the preparation of textbooks. In the early years after the founding of China,we adopted “one—sided” foreign policy, the history syllabus and the history textbooks for high schools were written in reference to the Soviet Union model. Therefore,in the process of writing the British bourgeois revolution, the process of revolution, the peasant movement and the class oppression were overemphasized. The structure of textbooks was single, mostly textual and relatively boring.During the Cultural Revolution, textbooks adopt historical writing methods of the "revolutionary model." They used intuition history and political propaganda to replaced all knowledge,so history education was completely abandoned. After the reform and opening up,especially since the new century, with the changes of historical ideology and historiography, changes in the concept of curriculum, changes in the international and domestic social environment, textbooks focus on the student's point of view during the writing process.Textbooks used the viewpoints of global history and history of civilization.Economic history, history of science, technology, and culture are equally important.Under the guidance of the new curriculum standards,"constitutional monarchy" as the center of the British bourgeois revolution and its content is more rational and objective. In the context of the text—assisted system, increasing history and aspect, and data playback, etc. The design of textbooks is diversity and more interesting. However, since the 2007 version of the textbook has been compiled using the theme system of Chinese and foreign editions,it has inevitably brought about the problems of convergence of content and recurrence of knowledge. Therefore,we can get experience from the process of writing history textbooks in the future and avoid the fragmentation of historical knowledge.
