The University In The Changing Times-Ling Nan University's Response, Adjustment And Cancellation (1948-1953)

government,It is still proved that it is ineffective and futile.After the announcement of futility,Lingnan's attitude softened,and it immediately improved its strategy and followed the trend.This suggests that despite the confrontation between politics and universities,it's still moderate and controllable.It also indicated to some extent that the government has strengthened the control of private universities.As the times and situation changes,the outbreak of the Korean War has escalated the tension between China and the United States.Especially after the Austin incident,Sino-U.S relations moved toward fierce confrontation.In China,protests against Austin's speech at the United Nations appeared firstly.The United States has fought back and frozen China's assets in the United States.This measure completely irritated the Chinese government and our government decided to cut off the ties of the United States in aid agencies in China.Cutting off the United States aid has actually shaken the foundation-funding for the survival of the Christian University.The operating expenses of Lingnan Children's Technology Institute were originally planned by the United States and were particularly affected.The funding for the institute had to be turned to Lingnan university.At this time,Lingnan University's deposits in the United States have been frozen,coupled with the need to provide extra support for the operation of the institute,which has increasingly become a heavy burden for Lingnan.At the same time,to compete for ownership of the institute,Lingnan and the Guangzhou Relief Branch contested for several times,which lasted more than one year.Due to insufficient funds,Lingnan failed.In fact,The insufficient funds for the Lingnan University are long-standing.However,the frozen funds and the expenditure collected by ourselves has intensified the ill-funded situation.The government implemented conditional funding subsidies for LingnanUniversity,eased the financial difficulties of the university,and provided excellent opportunities for the government to get involved strongly within the university.The autonomy of the university was further deprived.With the deeper involvement of the Chinese government in the Korean War and the threat of foreign enemies facing most of the heavy industrial bases located in the northeast,this prompted the government to become more and more aware of the importance of giving priority to the development of the defense industry.At that time,industrial talents of our country are far from being able to meet the actual needs.It is imperative to adjust the department of the Institute of Technology,to cultivate talents in industrial construction,strengthen the national defense and defend national security.Ideological reform is an important part of the adjustment of the Department.The ideological reform of teachers and students of Lingnan University is also focused on the
