With the progress of the times, basic education has been paid attention to by all sectors of society.Mathematics,as an important part of the reform on basic education, has been given increasing attention. The Mathematics Curriculum Standard for compulsory Education(2011 Edition)put forward that attention should be paid to the development of students’ sense of number, symbol consciousness, geometric intuition, spatial concept, data analysis concept, operation ability, model thought and reasoning ability. As one of the ten core concepts, mathematical operational ability represents the basic mathematical ability of primary school students, occupying an overwhelming proportion in the what they should learn at primary school stage. However, many studies have found that students have ignored the importance of improving this ability. The improvement of operational ability can not only improve the accuracy and efficiency of solving math problems, but also benefit students’ logical thinking and number sense. The third grade is just in the last year of the first learning stage. After the first two years of learning simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, students in this year begin to learn more systematic and in-depth mathematical operations. Therefore,it is of great importance to study the effective methods to improve the mathematical operational ability of the students in grade three. This research, drawing on ‘Mathematical operational ability scale’(part of Wu Hanrong,Li Li’s "Chinese Primary School students’ basic Mathematical ability Test scale"),divided the questions under each dimension of the scale by knowledge points, which is in accordance with requirements of the new curriculum standard. Before the experiment, the scale was used to randomly tested whether the two classes in the third grade performed equally well or not.Given that the same performance was ensured, the problems existing in the students were analyzed and the experimental schemes designed. One of the classes was randomly selected as the experimental group and the other one as the control group. Then the experiment was carried out in the experimental group for a period of nine weeks. After the experiment,a post-test was carried out to test the effectiveness of the experimental schemes. The results show that:1.The mathematical operational ability of the third grade primary school students in Chongqing nowadays has the following characteristics:On the whole, the mathematical operational ability of the third grade pupils is in the lower medium level.Students do not have good operational habits;they do not have a correct attitude towards operation and ignore the importance of operational ability in mathematics;they can accurately copy numbers, but they are not sensitive to numbers;they do not understand mathematical concepts and algorithm clearly. This can be explained by the fact that the score of addition and subtraction calculation is relatively high, but the understanding of carry and abdication is poor;they can not master the multiplication table skillfully and deftly compare the size of the number;the ways of evaluation of teachers in teaching is too simple.2.The training scheme of mathematical operational ability has a certain effect on the students, which is helpful to improve the mathematical operational ability of primary school students.
