| Chinese learning lays a lifelong foundation for human development.Extracurricular reading is an extension of Chinese learning.The importance of extracurricular reading is beyond comparison,which can promote the development,learning and growth of students.Therefore,cultivating their reading ability is of great importance.Middle grade pupils’ thinking is in an important stage where their abstract thinking develops from imagery thinking.They aren’t satisfied with the knowledge that the teachers teach them in class due to their students’ thinking characteristics during this stage.At this stage,they are so interested in extracurricular knowledge that they desire to absorb a lot of knowledge out of their strong curiosity by reading a wide variety of extracurricular books.Not only can the the contents of extracurricular books develop their intelligence but also they can exploit their potentialities,balancing the development of their body and mind.We all know the importance of extracurricular reading,and many schools spare no efforts to study the issue including rural primary schools and urban primary schools.The author has been teaching both in rural primary schools and in urban primary schools.I often wander the differences on extracurricular reading between the two kinds of schools.I am also curious about whether there exist some problems.Therefore,I try my best to find out these problems.To further study the issue,I take Longquan Experimental Primary School and Xihe Yuejin Primary School as an example,adopting many methods,such as questionnaire,example,interview,literature research.I select students in grade three from ten classes in Longquan Experimental Primary School and that in grade three from five classes in Xihe Yuejin Primary School as samples.The questionnaires are sent out and collected one by one.Through the analysis of the questionnaire,this paper makes a thorough understanding of the current situation of middle grade pupils’ reading in compulsory education from the following aspects: the amount of extracurricular reading,the changes of extracurricular reading contents,the forms of extracurricular reading,the media of extracurricular reading,the depth of extracurricular reading,the forms of extracurricular reading,etc.When it comes to the extracurricular reading problems,the author put forward some suggestions.As for teachers,they shoud do their best to improve students’ handwritng,stimulate students’ interest in learning,arouse their love for reading and encourage them to reading more books.What’more,as to parents,they are supposed to cooperate with their children to create good environment.As a result,there is a good atmosphere in our society where people have a passion for reading,which can naturally provide the students with good environment to read. |
