Currently,Chinese teaching in New Zealand is booming and the number of Chinese learners has reached a record high.However,Chinese teaching in New Zealand started late,and learners are mostly of zero-based students and tend to be younger.Local Chinese faculty strength are weak.At the same time,there is also a lack of local teaching materials suitable for local primary and secondary school students in teaching resources,so that the current Chinese teaching can not fully meet the Chinese learning requirements of local students.In addition to the local teaching philosophy and the particularity of the teaching objects,it is of practical significance to carry out the teaching design for the primary Chinese classroom in New Zealand primary and secondary schools.Based on the analysis of the Theme-based Instruction and its characteristics,the links and principles of the thematic teaching design,this paper starts from the reality of Chinese teaching in New Zealand primary and secondary schools.It combines the author's teaching practice in North Shore primary and secondary schools in 2018,and designs the primary and secondary school Chinese course in New Zealand based on the Theme-based Instruction.It determines the teaching theme,teaching content and theme activities of each class hour,summarizes the display of teaching results and teaching evaluation methods,and presents teaching design cases with the theme of "Daily Greetings".At the same time,this paper discusses the following three questions with the Chinese thematic teaching survey,Chinese teaching effect test and student interview as the basic research tools.Can Theme-based Instruction improve students' interest in Chinese learning.Whether it can improve students' Chinese learning level.Whether the teaching theme adapted to the school subject has practical significance in the process of Chinese subject learning.The results of the questionnaire and the control experiment show that Theme-based Instruction has positive significance in the primary and secondary Chinese teaching practice in New Zealand,which is mainly manifested in the following aspects: learners' interest in learning Chinese has been significantly improved;Learners' Chinese proficiency hasbeen improved significantly and they have mastered more knowledge of Chinese language and culture.In terms of teaching themes,it also proves that it is possible to integrate Chinese language teaching into thematic teaching in local schools.It can be seen that Theme-based Instruction can provide orientation of teaching plan for novice teachers,expand the ideas of teaching design,enrich the forms and methods of Chinese classroom teaching,improve the enthusiasm and efficiency of Chinese learning for learners,and have certain inspiration for primary Chinese teaching design.Finally,this paper also summarizes the value and deficiency of Theme-based Instruction in the primary Chinese teaching practice in New Zealand from three aspects of teaching,students and teachers,and reflects on this in order to further improve the follow-up teaching.
