Under the background of the global "Chinese fever",Chinese education in Thailand is showing a trend of younger age.In order to better promote the development of Chinese education in primary and secondary schools in Thailand, how to improve the quality of Chinese teaching has become one of the focuses of academic research.Demand analysis,as an important empirical study in foreign language teaching and research, has practical guiding significance in formulating teaching objectives, choosing teaching contents and teaching methods. In the teaching of Chinese as a second language, demand analysis can reflect the demand of Chinese learners and guide Chinese teaching.Based on the achievements of foreign language teaching demand analysis theories at home and abroad, this study conducts an analysis of 280 students' Chinese learning demand in seven public middle schools in Kalasin Province, northeast Thailand, under the observation, questionnaire survey and interview, based on four aspects, learning objectives, learning interests, learning difficulties and learning conditions, the results show that students tend to choose communicative and practical goals;they are interested in functional teaching content, interesting and intuitive teaching methods and traditional but diverse examination methods;they are interested in Chinese movies and Chinese idols;they have obvious difficulties in writing and speaking;the abilities to learn Chinese by themselves and give some feedback to the teachers are limited;there is a demand for teachers who have lively and outgoing characteristics and use Chinese as classroom teaching language;there is a demand for fixed textbooks, suited multimedia teaching equipment and Chinese classroom equipped with Chinese extracurricular readingmaterials;and the situation that students' supply exceeds demand in Chinese class hours reflects the problem of insufficient effective demand forstudents' Chinese learning.Based on the results of the demand analysis, this study puts forward some suggestions to meet the students' Chinese learning demand, which can provide effective reference for Chinese teachers who work in the public middle schools of Kalasin province to carry out Chinese teaching activities. At the same time, this study hopes to provide some reference for Chinese teaching for other public middle schools in northeast Thailand with similar background.
