STEM education is an organic combination of science,technology,engineering and mathematics.It emphasizes multidisciplinary integration,problem-oriented education,and aims to cultivate new talents in the future.STEM education originated in the United States.With the development of STEM,it has gradually become a hot spot in the reform of basic education in all countries of the world.In 2017,the new curriculum standard for primary school science issued by the Ministry of Education clearly lists STEM education as an important part of the new curriculum standards.At present,most of China's STEM education research focuses on basic theoretical research and there are relatively few explorations on STEM teaching practice.In response to this situation,the author developed the case of "Design and Production of Soundproof Box" based on STEM concept and carried out implementation and evaluation.The author hope to make a contribution to strengthen the theoretical research and practical exploration of STEM education.This paper consists of five parts:The first part is the introduction which clarifies the research background,research significance,research content and methods in this paper.The second part clarifies the development status of STEM education at home and abroad.The author summarizes the three research hot spots of foreign STEM education and the eight research hot spots of domestic STEM education.The third part is the theoretical basis of STEM education.The third chapter introduces the five core concepts in this paper,and then clarify three features and the theoretical basis of STEM education.Specifically,the core concepts are: science,technology,engineering,mathematics and STEM.Meanwhile,the author gives the definition of the five core concepts in this paper.After that,The three characteristics are: interdisciplinary,contextual and cooperative.The fourth part is the teaching activities.The author designed the activity of “Design and Production of Soundproof Box” and carried out corresponding implementation and evaluation.This course includes four parts totally: collecting information,design,producing and evaluation.The case design is based on 5E model.During implementation,the author uses two materials:foam and wood.Interview and questionnaire survey were adopted in the evaluation process.The fifth part is the summary and outlook.It is mainly the conclusions of the research,the lack of research and the prospects of STEM education.
