As a multi-disciplinary learning project,STEM education composed of Science,Technology,Engineering and Mathematics,aims to cultivate students' problem-solving thinking style and interdisciplinary application ability.STEM education in China is developing,but it has matured in foreign countries,especially the United States.Some study found that,activities of science and education are the ways of education to improve students' comprehensive literacy,which has been widely carried out in all grades of our country.So the combination of STEM education and activities of science and education would provide a new opportunity for the development of STEM education in China.In this paper,by studying domestic and foreign STEM education literature,then drawing on STEM teaching models and combining the characteristics of learners and high school education,the author constructs a STEM teaching model suitable for science and education activities based on the concept of theory.In practice,the author designs,implements and evaluates a case of science and education activities "Design and production of boomerang" based on STEM education concept.Therefore,our research not only provides a feasible solution for the combination of STEM education and science and education activities in the concept of theory,but also promotes the development of STEM education in China.This research consists of the following five parts:The first part: Clarify the research background and significance,and propose the research content framework and methods.This study further analyzes the connotation of STEM education in theory,summarizes the characteristics of STEM education in China,enriches the practical research of STEM education in scientific activities,and hopes to provide theoretical reference for relevant education researchers to carry out STEM education practice research.At the practical level,it provides some practical references for first-line comprehensive practice teachers or science teachers.The second part: Sort out relevant literature on STEM education at home and abroad,expound domestic,foreign research and development status.To elaborate the development status of foreign STEM education from the four research hotspots of theoretical understanding,integration method,practical research and evaluation of STEM education;The development status of domestic STEM education is described from the theoretical research of STEM education,curriculum practice research,teachers training and the difference between STEM education,maker education,and STS education.The third part: Define the core concepts related to STEM education,including STEM and STEM education,science,technology,engineering and mathematics;Discusses the theoretical basis of STEM education: activity theory,"Learn in practice" theory,constructivism theory,cognition-developmental learning theory.The fourth part: Draw on the existing STEM teaching model,a STEM teaching model suitable for science and education activities is formulated.It includes four aspects: teaching objectives,teacher activities,student activities and teaching environment.According to the established teaching model,we firstly design and implement-"Boomerang Design and Production" teaching case,and issue pre-test and post-test questionnaires before and after the implementation of the case.Then,we evaluate the teaching effect through interview method and questionnaire survey method.The results of the study show that STEM education not only can strengthen the connection between students' knowledge and reality,but also promote students to actively explore the difficulties encountered in life and learning.Moreover,it can cultivate their awareness of using multi-disciplinary knowledge such as science,technology,engineering and mathematics to solve problems.However,the cultivation of students' teamwork,language and social skills requires a long-term process.The fifth part: Summarize the research conclusions and innovations,put forward the deficiencies in the research and the problems that need to be solved in the future,and look forward to the development prospect of STEM education.
