As a major strategy related to the overall development of the country, exploring the evolution of its population distribution pattern and its trait from a multi-scale perspective in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, revealing the spatial dynamics of population distribution is of great significance for a correct understanding of the population distribution law of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. This paper uses the six-year data of 1990,2000,2010,2015,2016 and 2017,based on the population ratio, population density, population growth rate, population space dividend, and equilibrium index, from the three scales of basin, province and city to analyse the population distribution pattern and its evolution of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.Apart form that, the comparison of the indicators at multiple scales, spatial autocorrelation analysis and calculation of the scale variance are further carried out.The results show that the population distribution pattern is consistent with the development plan of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and different regions are at different stages of development;the population distribution pattern is dependent on the scale;the smaller the scale, the stronger the distribution of resident population is,the higher the contribution rate of the overall difference;the population distribution shows spatial agglomeration.
