Teacher Qualification System Of European Medieval Universities

The earliest teacher qualification system in the world can be traced back to the Middle Ages,which was the product of the special era of Europe in the Middle Ages.Teacher qualification system was born under the jurisdiction of the local cathedral chancellor.With the formation and resistance of the teachers'guild,it became a part of the university organization.From High Middle Ages to Late Middle Ages,the system evolved in disputes among various social forces in Europe.The main body of the grant was changed during the evolution.The standards also changed accordingly,moving towards to professional and systematic.This paper studies the teacher qualification system of European Medieval Universities based on the perspective of the standards for conferring the teachers' qualification,divides the evolution process of the system into three stages,analyzes the standards for conferring the teachers' qualification under different subjects.The first stage is that the chancellor controls the teacher qualification system.During this period,because of the lack of professional auditing standards,the chancellor judged applicants' qualification by subjective criteria.The second stage is that the teachers' guild contests the right to grant the teachers'qualification.During this period,the main body of the grant was changed,the teachers'guild grasped the real right of teacher qualification system.Under the leadership of the teachers'guild,the standards for granting teachers' qualification began to move toward a specialization.The popes and their emissaries also issued the decrees to provide the standards for conferring the teachers'qualification.The third stage is that the academic degree system appears in the Late Middle Ages.The eligibility criteria under the academic degree system made the European Medieval Universities to be standardized in the training and selection of teachers.Take a hard look at the teacher qualification system in European Medieval Universities,we will find that the system is of great importance to the development of medieval universities and to the professional development of vocational teachers.The system also has some enlightenments to the perfection of modern universities.
