Investigation On The Quality Of Life And Its Influencing Factors Among College Students With Left Behind

ObjectivesTo describe the status of the quality of life of college students with left-behind experience and further explore the influencing factors.MethodsA school-based cross-sectional health survey was conducted from October to December 2017 in Anhui province.Using stratified cluster sampling method,three regions,Suzhou,Hefei and Ma'anshan,were randomly selected.In each region,one university(Wanbei vocational health school,Anhui medical university,and Anhui university of technology)was chosen to recruit participants.All students of two school of one university were selected to complete an anonymous questionnaire after informed consent.In this study,a total of 4,350 students were included and 4,148(95.36%)students completed the questionnaire effectively.And there were 2,291 left-behind college students and 1,857 non-left-behind college students.The questionnaire mainly includes the sociodemographic profile,left-behind experiences and quality of life.Chi-square test was used to compare the differences of sociodemographic profile between left-behind and non-left-behind experience college students.The t-test was used to compare difference of each dimension score of quality of life between in left-behind and non-left-behind experience college students.The t-test and ANOVA were used to examine differences in quality of life of the left-behind students of different sociodemographic profile and left-behind experiences.Multiple linear regression was used to explore the factors associated with various dimensions of quality of life.Bilateral test was used and P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results2,291 college students with left-behind experience were included in the present study,1,422(62.06%)were male,and 869(37.94%)were female.The mean age was(19.67±1.47)years.Students with left-behind experience scored PF(87.60±16.20),RP(75.42±33.79),BP(78.10±12.61),GH(69.06±17.75),VT(66.36±15.30),SF(85.35±14.60),RE(58.88±40.60),and MH(68.90±15.61).Scores of all dimensions were lower than those of non-left-behind college students(P<0.001).One-way analysis of variance showed that,1.General demographic factors: GH scores of male was higher than that of female,while SF scores of female was higher than that of male(P<0.05).The different grades,majors and family economic affected the QOL of LBEs from different dimensions(P<0.05).Drinker and smoker scored lower than non-drinker and non-smoker in all subscales.2.The left behind factors: the longer left-behind duration,the lower score of quality of life of the students,but except PF and SF dimensions.The earlier of first time left-behind,the lower score of quality of life.There were statistically significant differences in RE and MH dimensions(P<0.05).The frequently contact,frequently meet,type of guardian,parenting style and conflict with guardian affected the QOL of LBEs from different dimensions(P<0.05).Multiple linear regression results showed that,1.General demographic factors: gender,grade,major,family economic,smoker and drinker had significant effects on QOL of LBEs(P<0.05).Scores of QOL of male were higher than that of female(except SF).Higher grade student had lower score of QOL.Scores of QOL of science students were lower than those of medical students(P<0.05).The better family economic status,the higher scores of QOL of LBEs.Drinker and smoker scored lower than non-drinker and non-smoker.2.The left behind factors: left-behind duration,first time left-behind,frequently contact,frequently meet,type of guardian,parenting style and conflict with guardian had significant effects on the QOL of LBEs(P<0.05).The longer left-behind duration,the lower score of QOL of LBEs(except PF and RP).The earlier of first time left-behind,the lower scores of QOL.The students who contacted more frequently and met more frequently achieved higher scores of QOL.Those whose guardians were parents had the highest scores of QOL.The scores of QOL of college students with democratic parenting style was higher than that of strict and indulgent parenting style(P<0.05).Those who had conflicts with their guardians during the left-behind period was lower scored(P<0.01).ConclusionThe QOL of college students with left-behind experience was lower than that of college students without left-behind experience.1.General demographic factors: the influence factors of the QOL of LBEs included gender,grade,major,family economic status,smoking and drinking.2.The left-behind factors: left-behind duration,first time left-behind,the frequency of contact,the frequency of meet,type of guardian,parenting style and conflict with the guardian affected the QOL of LBEs(P<0.05).After adjusting the sociodemographic profile,the multiple linear regression results were similar to those found with before.
