| Significant others are the people or the groups that produce an important influence on the growth and development of the individual.College students are in a critical period of personality perfection, psychological development and value formation. At the same time, college students at this stage have a strong plasticity and the attitudes of others can easily become an important factor affecting students’ development. Therefore, the in-depth study of the contents, ways and degree of the significant others’ influences have great significance to the talent cultivation and development of universities. At present, the academic community has little research on the significant others of college students, most of them focus on primary and middle school students and the research methods are mainly questionnaire survey methods. This paper adopts the method of qualitative research and mainly explores the types of significant others of undergraduate of Y University during the four years and their influence on college students.Besides that, what kind of distribution picture does these significant others present? How can we explain this distribution? This study mainly focuses on the case analysis and depth interviews as a means to interview 46 graduates of Y University of 2017.Through the collation and classification of interview materials and combined with situational analysis, this study found that:In the interviews, teachers were mentioned the most frequently while they had very little influence on students finally. And parents,as the first mentor of individual growth, have been providing financial support to their children but their influence was ignored by the college students. In addition, since the students have not yet fully contacted the society during the four years,so the influence of the publics is just a tiny fraction. Finally, the peer group become the most influential group among the four types of significant others.Ultimately, the grounded theory was obtained as follows: First, from the perspective of cognitive embeddedness, the individual can embed their existing cognitive structure of the surrounding environment and the group when they interact with others.During the process of fitting in with the real invironment, when the reality is higher or lower than the individual’s own expectations,it will break his original cognition, and then it will produce positive or negative influences. And the corresponding people become the significant others of individual.Secondly, from the perspective of cultural embeddedness, the academic atmosphere of Y Universtity and its dormitory culture present a phenomenon of the academic weakness as a whole. The subculture enables individuals to produce utilitarian learning objectives and the learners are no longer their primary identity,so teachers and peers have little impact onstudents’ academic performance.Thirdly, from the perspective of relational embeddedness, due to the development of science and technology and information in today’s society, the previous educational experience and the background of growth have made the relationship models between the contemporary “post-90s” college students and parents different from the previous generations. So the influence of parents on college students has greatly weakness.During the four years, the main activity place of the students were concentrated on the campus, and they were not completely entered the society. Therefore, the influence of the publics is just a tiny fraction. And the peer group had the greatest impact on the individual due to the similarity with all aspects of the peer group.Ultimately, the influence of teachers, parents and the publics give way to the influence of peer group, and the interpersonal influence is the greatest of the peer group. |
