In physics teaching, image thinking helps students understand and master physical concepts and laws.Especially for the second grade of junior high school students, the design of vivid and lively physics classes will improve their interest in physics subject effectively. In view of this, this paper studies the methods of improving image thinking ability in the second grade of junior high school students physics teaching. This thesis summarizes the research results of domestic and foreign scholars on image thinking, defines the concepts of representation and image thinking, and expounds the role of image thinking in the study of physical phenomena, physical concepts and physical laws in the second grade physics. In order to understand the status quo of the second grade students’ image thinking ability, the author interviewed the physics teachers of the second grade physics carried owt a middle school in Anshan, and conducted a questionnaire survey to the second grade students, and analyzed the problems existing in the development of students’ image thinking at this stage. And to propose corresponding teaching strategies for these problems: enrich the students’ physical representation reserve;strengthen the combination of graphics and texts;strengthen associations, imagination training and other types of training to improve students’ image thinking ability. Then, the two teaching examples of “Archimede Principle” and “Leverage”,which focus on cultivating image thinking, were designed and practiced. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of these strategies are tested from three aspects: teacher reflection, teacher evaluation and student feedback.
