As a important part of language education,composition teaching has been an major method for students to form self-understanding and to know the world,and it has been playing an irreplaceable role in developing students’ Chinese accomplishment and improving their expression ability.Life-based composition is a significant concept in composition teaching,many teachers and scholars has been drawing great attention on it,and it has become a trend in primary and secondary schools teaching writing.The teaching of life-based composition can help students enrich writing contents and experience their everyday life,then guide students to express their true feelings in writing,last but not least,promote the formation of healthy personality.Therefore,in this critical period of primary school,life-based composition teaching is beneficial for children’s growth and development,and it is worthy of research.The purpose of this study is to explore the uniqueness of life-based composition teaching in primary school and to point out some problems and its courses in life-based composition teaching through some typical cases,then,strategies and recommendations for life-based composition teaching will be given in this study.This research mainly adopts case analysis,randomly select four primary schools in both urban and rural areas of Xuzhou,through typical cases from students,generalize the problems of life-based composition from the aspects of number,content and teacher’s comments.At the same time,by means of observation in classroom and literature comparison,analyze the reasons behind the problems.The research shows that there are some problems in life-based composition in primary school: First,few compositions is related to their lives,and the understanding of composition is not thorough enough.Second,the content is too monotonous and far away from their everyday life,students cannot express their true feelings and innocence.Third,the lack of supervision and evaluation lead to the poor quality of students’ compositions.The reasons for the problems above include: the student’s limited outlook of their everyday life,the lack of teachers’ supervisions,inappropriate ways of education of parents.Students are lack of life experience,and the ability of observation is not good enough,they don’t care about their lives except focusing on their study.In addition,teachers’ teaching philosophy is lagging,they don’t really understand the connotation of life-based compositions,besides,there are serious deficiency of scientific evaluations.Parents take grades so serious that they don’t give any chance to their children to practice in their everyday life,it also causes the problems.To improve life-based composition teaching in primary schools,this study gives the following recommendations from the perspective of teachers: firstly,teachers should deeply understand the connotation of life-based compositions and the value of education,then establish a clear concept of life-based composition teaching;Secondly,they should improve the home-school cooperation to make children’s lives more interesting,meaningful and colourful,and,make sure that they do have the chance to enjoy their lives.Thirdly,teachers can guide their students to do more practices and try to accumulate enough experiences to improve their abilities in observation;Fourthly,teachers should pay attention to multiple evaluation,try to review both articles and critics.
