Education is the foundation of a century's plan,and teachers are the foundation of education.In January 2018,"Opinions of the Central Committee and the State Council of the Communist Party of China on the Comprehensive Deepening of the Reform of Teachers' Team Construction in the New Era" was issued,which proposed the construction of high-quality professional and innovative teachers.Studying the professional development of teachers is of great significance for solving the problems of teachers and improving the quality of teachers.Studying the development of general teachers in rural primary schools will contribute to solving the problems of rural education,improving the quality of rural teachers and promoting the overall and stable development of basic education.Based on questionnaire survey and supplementary interviews,this research investigated the professional development of general teachers in ten rural primary schools in Miluo City from four dimensions:professional motivation,professional sentiment,professional knowledge and professional competence.It analysed the differences of the professional development of general teachers in different genders,ages,teaching ages,educational background,whether they are authorized teaching staff,whether they are head teachers or not,and the number of working hours per week.Then the research tried to find the relevant influencing factors and put forward targeted countermeasures.On the basis of empirical investigation,the research drew the following conclusions: 1.General teachers' professional development in Miluo rural primary school is better;2.There are significant differences in professional sentiment and professional competence between teachers of different genders;3.There are significant differences in professional knowledge between teachers of different teaching ages;4.There are significant differences in professional sentiment between teachers whether they are authorized teaching staff or not;5.There are significant differences in professional motivation,professional knowledge and professional competence among teachers with different working hours per week.In view of the findings of this study,this paper analysed the causes of the general characteristics and the reasons for the related differences from both historical and realistic aspects.At the same time,this paper found the problems of affecting the professional development of general teachers in rural primary schools from internal and external aspects.Internal factors include weak awareness of teachers' professional self-development,lack of professional development planning,imperfect structure of teachers' personal quality.External factors include national and local training policies is lack of pertinence,social expectations of teachers do not match the status of teachers,rural primary school culture and organization is not sound,school-based research and training is mere formality.Correspondingly,constructive countermeasures has been put forward from the aspects of the state,society,schools and teachers: the state and local governments should formulate training policies for general teachers,improve the pre-service training of general teachers,and formulate on-the-job training plans for general teachers;the society should provide guarantee for the professional development of general teachers,form correct social expectations of general teachers,and enhance the social status of general teachers;schools should create a good atmosphere for the professional development of general teachers,develop the culture of rural primary schools,improve the professional development planning of general teachers in schools,form a community of professional development of teachers,and implement school-based research;general teachers should enhance their awareness of professional development,seek opportunities for professional development independently in practice,form a habit of reflecting on teaching,and make good use of free time.
