On The Educational Thought In Qian Xuesen's Letters

Qian Xuesen,also called Tsien Hsue-shen or Chien Hlike-Sen,is one of the outstanding and representative scientists in the field of aerospace in the 20 th century.As the founder of the aerospace industry in China,he is the pioneer who advocated talent cultivation from the perspective of science and technology leader,and also the scientific and technological pioneer publishing more than 5,000 letters for the future generations.Qian's letters are important historical materials to study Qian's educational thoughts.This dissertation mainly investigates 5311 letters published by Qian Xuesen.Through the Delphi method,the opinions of 14 experts and scholars are analyzed and synthesized to determine the categories of educational thoughts,which include educational experience,educational theory,educational ideal,in Qian's letters.Besides,485 sample letters which are related to the educational ideas are investigated by indexing the keywords.Moreover,by using NVIVO software and combining with the subject category index determined by Delphi method,these letters are coded and analyzed systematically,and the hierarchical chart of the category index of Qian's educational thoughts is then constructed.Based on the analysis above,257 effective sample letters are sorted out by the content analysis method,and the content of the index hierarchical level is determined.Among 134 sample letters.We mainly focus on the analysis of the essence of Qian's views on experience,theory,and ideal.Qian's views and arguments on educators,educatees,and educational intermediary systems are embodied in his views on educational experience.In the study of the educational theory,Qian's substantive views on education,the relationship between education and human beings,the relationship between education and society are mainly analyzed.In the study of the educational ideal,Qian's views on talent cultivation of future education are mainly discussed.Then,Qian's engineering thought in the educational system,and the related arguments about overall wisdom education are introduced.Through the quantitative and qualitative researches about the fifteen volumes of Qian's letters,we can find a more real and comprehensive Qian Xuesen.Through the construction of the categories and indicators of the educational thoughts which are contained in the letters,we can understand Qian's educational thoughts in a systematic and structural way.Through the systematic combing and connotation discussion of Qian's educational thoughts,we can help others to understand Qian's educational thoughts systematically,which is meaningful for the training of engineering talents and the reform of engineering education of the future generations.
