With the continuous expansion of colleges and universities and the ever-increasing social competition, the employment pressure on students is increasing.Due to the poor social identity, lack of self-ability,and high expectations for employment, the students of the secondary vocational school are physically and mentally exhausted, unable to adapt to the society, and have a variety of psychological problems that seriously affect their health. As a special group in the society, students in the secondary vocational school have a rising trend in their psychological problems.Relevant literature shows that personal personality characteristics have a greater impact on their mental health.Based on this, based on the investigation of the mental health status and personality characteristics of vocational students, this study studied the relationship between mental health status and personality traits, and proposed some pertinent suggestions to promote the development of personality and mental health of secondary vocational students. In this study,a random sample survey was conducted on 845 students from the Wuxue Polytechnic Secondary School in Hubei Province, using the Symptom Checklist(SCL-90)and the Big Five Personality Inventory(ENO).Research is conducted from three aspects: gender, home location, and the only and only variables.Through statistical analysis, the following conclusions are drawn:First,The overall level of mental health of secondary vocational students is low,and the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder and hostile factors are more prominent;the gender mental health status is not significantly different;the mental health of urban students is better than rural students;the mental health of only-child students is better than only child students.Second, the personality characteristics of secondary vocational students are generally more positive and outgoing, but they are emotionally unstable and cannot control and regulate their own emotions well.In terms of emotional stability, girls are worse than boys and are more likely to experience intense emotions. But in the extraverted dimension, girls are more outward-oriented than boys and are happy to get along with others.Compared with non-only children, the only child is less emotional,outgoing,cheerful,open-minded,easy to accept new things,easy-going personality, and strong sense of responsibility.Third, the mental health status and personality characteristics of secondary vocational students are related, and the personality characteristics have a predictive effect on the mental health status of secondary vocational students. Finally, this study put forward specific suggestions from several aspects such as schools, society, families, and individual students in secondary vocational schools to help the secondary vocational students improve their mental health and shape their healthy personality.
