Model Cornerstone Assessment is a kind of alternative assessment that has been determined before teaching based on a backward design approach under the educational concept of "teaching for understanding".Cornerstone is interpreted as foundation which means to fix the cornerstone of a building.Assessment is defined as the intentional use of multiple methods to gather evidence to achieve desired results.Cornerstone assessment is closely related to the curriculum and is carried out continuously.It will change with the rise of the grades and the content of assessment will gradually deepen and expand.Based on the theoretical background,connotation and characteristics of Model Cornerstone Assessment,the case analysis in the teaching assessment of the primary school visual arts,has teased out the the teaching assessment system of the primary school visual arts under the Model Cornerstone Assessment,enriching the connotation of the visual arts teaching assessment in our country.Specific assessment strategies and assessment design strategies have been proposed to provide reference for teachers to design and implement art teaching assessment in primary schools.This paper is divided into six chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly clarifies the purpose and significance of the research,conducts a literature review,clarifies the domestic and foreign research status of Model Cornerstone Assessment and teaching assessment in primary schools,etc.And makes a good theoretical preparation for this research.Then the research content and methods of this paper are analyzed.The second chapter is about the theory of art teaching assessment in primary schools.Firstly,the key words are distinguished and defined.Then the necessity of art assessment is determined and the related methods of art assessment are briefly introduced and classified.The third chapter is the research and exploration of the theoretical background of the Model Cornerstone Assessment,including the educational concept of “Teaching for Understanding”,National Core Arts Standards issued by the United States in 2014 and instructional design strategies known as Backwards Design.The fourth chapter explains the connotation and the characteristics of Model Cornerstone Assessment in detail,including are curriculum embedded,recur over and change with grades,value understanding and performance,extensive use of rubrics and so on.Chapter five continues to study the case of Model Cornerstone Assessment in primary schools on this basis.For exploring the soecific contents of the model such as stategies for embedding in instruction,detailed assessment procedures,suggested scoring devices,assessment focus chart,etc.Chapter six is the summary and inspiration of this research.It summarizes the enlightenment of arts teaching assessment in primary schools in China and its application strategies.And provides new ideas and methods for art teaching assessment in China.
