With the deepening of China’s basic education reform,the training objectives of primary and secondary schools have increasingly focused on the cultivation of students’ comprehensive qualities and abilities.Ritual education is an activity in which schools purposely organize ritual activities to educate students.Through careful design of various activities,an educational atmosphere is created to strengthen students’ thoughts and emotions,to cultivate students’ moral sentiments,and to improve the overall quality of students.For this reason,ritual education has been more widely carried out in schools in different regions of China in order to realize the value of ritual education.However,due to the influences and limitations of many factors such as ideological concepts and school conditions,school ritual education develops unevenly between urban and rural areas.Especially in rural schools,ritual education is lagging behind.It is also quite difficult for these schools to achieve the educational value of ritual education.The junior middle school stage is a crucial period for students.School ritual education plays a significant role on the ideological quality,psychological quality and comprehensive ability of middle school students.Huaibei is a city located at the junction of Anhui,Jiangsu,Shandong,and Henan province.In terms of its education,the development of compulsory education varies between urban and rural areas.Especially in rural junior middle schools,due to the limitations of the school,the problems in ritual education are very obvious,which has an adverse impact on the growth and development of rural middle school students.Based on this,in order to promote the effective development of ritual education in rural junior middle schools and realize the comprehensive development of rural middle school students,the author firstly elaborated the meaning,characteristics,values and principles of school ritual education as the theoretical basis of this research.Then the study used questionnaire and interview to investigate the actual situation of the ritual education activities in 3 rural junior middle schools in Huaibei.The study found that the problems existing in the ritual education of rural junior middle schools are mainly reflected in single form,lack of innovation and rules,poor effect;lack of rules and low students’ participation.Based on these findings,the author analyzed the causes and found that rural schools have no correct cognition for ritual education at first.Then,rural middle schools do not pay enough attention to the subjectivity of students.Besides,lack of professional ritual education system and corresponding conditions arealso causes to the poor ritual education of rural junior middle schools.In order to improve the conditions of ritual education,rural junior middle schools can try the following suggestions.First,rural junior middle schools can establish the concept of ritual education and highlight the educational nature of school rituals.Second,schools could try to improve and perfect the administration system to guarantee the effective development of ritual education.Paying attention to students’ emotional experience and student’s subjective status is the third suggestion.Fourth,using innovative ritual education methods is also an effective method to achieve improvement of ritual education in rural junior middle schools.Fifth,the rural junior middle schools should focus on integrating ritual education resources.Finally,the author hopes this study can provide theoretical basis and material for the ritual education research,thus guiding rural junior middle schools to carry out ritual education correctly,and then realize the value of ritual education.
