Rural women in China are facing a difficult living situation. They have low economic income, low education level, insufficient social participation, and low social status. The overloaded labor makes their health condition worrisome. As a result, rural women in China mostly face the dual challenges of physical health and mental health. The long-standing high suicide rate among rural women calls for the attention of the entire society to the mental health and subjective well-being of rural women. This study started from the Feminist perspective and was based on the Social Capital Theory, exploring the status of rural women's subjective well-being and its influencing factors.Using CGSS 2015 survey data, the rural female samples were extracted.Descriptive statistics method,T-test,factor analysis, and stratified analysis based on ordinal Logistic regression models were used to explore the dimensions and inclusive factors of the independent variables, and to verify the relationship between independent variables and dependent variable, hoping to find effective ways to improve the subjective well-being of rural women in China. The research results showed that Putnam's Social Capital Theory was well applicable to rural women in China. The three dimensions of social capital:social networks, social trust, and social norms are all supported to have significant impacts on the subjective well-being of rural women in China. The study also explored the effects of sociodemographic variables and other factors under the three dimensions of social capital on the subjective well-being of rural women. The study developed a research framework in the context of China for the Social Capital Theory, and responded to the "paradox of happiness".This study provides theoretical references and practical paths for social workers and social policy makers to intervene in mental health problems such as rural women's suicide, and to improve the level of well-being of rural women.
