From 2000 to 2016,there were 311 mergers in China's colleges and universities, involving nearly 1,000 colleges and universities. In 2000,the number of mergers reached the peak.In that year,China's colleges and universities experienced 121 mergers. In addition, during the statistical period,450 universities in China have been renamed.According to the inertia thinking, the renaming of colleges and universities is a win-win for colleges and universities. However, after the analysis of this paper, the impact of college name change or merger on the efficiency of university science and technology innovation is significantly negative. In terms of efficiency at the time of output, this paper selects the number of journals published by universities in China and abroad as output indicators, capital investment and manpower input of colleges and universities as corresponding input indicators, and uses stochastic frontier analysis to fit the efficiency of scientific and technological innovation in colleges and universities. However, for different institutions, the results have certain heterogeneity. This paper classifies colleges and universities into four types, namely, the college is renamed as a university, the undergraduate is renamed, the same level renamed, and renamed by mergers. The merger is divided into three types,namely,"985 universities" merged with"non-211 universities","211 universities" merged with "non-211 universities" and"non-211 universities" merged with each other, and heterogeneity analysis was carried out on this basis. As a result, the change of the name from college to university and the change of the same level have a significant negative impact on the efficiency of universities, and the change of the "ZhuanKe" universities is not significant. For the heterogeneity of the merger, the impact of "985 colleges" merged "non-211 universities"on efficiency is relatively significant. The impact of "211 universities" merged "non-211 universities" on efficiency is not significant. The merger between "non-211 universities" will have a negative impact on the efficiency of university science and technology innovation. In addition, this paper also discusses the problems related to the campuses of universities. For the name change, the more the number of campuses, the more negative the impact on the efficiency of university science and technology innovation will not increase significantly;for mergers, the greater the number of campuses, the greater the negative impact of the merger on the efficiency of technological innovation. This paper also explores the heterogeneity impact of renaming or merging with the average distance between the main campus and the branch campuses. The results show that the greater the average distance between the main campus and the branch campus, the greater the negative impact of the name change or merger on the efficiency of science and technology innovation in colleges and universities. |
