The study of the role of momentum in sports has been attracting the attention of scholars. This is because in sports competition,in addition to absolute strength, there are other factors that can affect the outcome of the game. One of the most important ones is "momentum".It can be understood as a state of mind that is widely believed to affect the athlete's subsequent realization. The "momentum" often mentioned in the sports performance is:winning streak, home advantage, hot hand effect which means basketball player's throwing ball often mentioned the concept of "feel good".Previous research on momentum is within-season,and our research hopes to explore whether there is a momentum effect between seasons, that is,whether the team's performance last season can continue to the next season through the momentum. In this article, taking the bowl game system of American college league football as an example, the data include 97 teams from Division I FBS subdivision from 1985 to 2016.In the empirical analysis, the bowl game's effect on winning rate of next season is treated as inter-season momentum. We use fixed-effects model of panel data to analyze the impact of the last season bowl game to determine whether there is a momentum between seasons. And we also discusses endogenous problems. The results shoxw that in the case of controlling the strength of the team, the bowl game at the end of last season has a significant positive effect on the winning rate of the current season, and the results of different levels of bowls have different effects.
