Research On The Relationship Between Undergraduate Speciality Identity And Learning Engagement In Independent Colleges

A new round of scientific and technological revolution has brought about changes in the world's education.Facing the increasingly fierce international competition,China,which has stepped into the stage of higher education popularization,has also taken improving the quality of education as its strategic goal.Under the guidance of the educational thought of "student-centered",the traditional higher education which emphasizes the extension development starts to turn to the main body of education--students.Then the paradigm of quality assessment of higher education has shifted from the focus on resource input to the focus on the learning input of college students,and the research on the learning input of college students has become a new development trend and hot issue in the field of quality assessment of higher education.At the same time,major is an important learning content for students in the higher education stage,and students' understanding of basic information of major,emotional affection,behavioral performance,matching degree and other aspects will have an impact on students' learning motivation,attitude and state.Therefore,from the perspective of students,it is of great significance to explore students' speciality identity and learning engagement for the promotion of higher education.This study summarizes the concepts,measurement methods and the relationship between speciality identity and learning engagement to understand the current research status.Based on self-identity theory,social identity theory,student effort quality theory,learning engagement theory and participation-identity model,this paper conducts an empirical study on undergraduates of Y College.In addition,the questionnaire on undergraduate speciality identity of independent colleges and the questionnaire on undergraduate learning engagement of independent colleges were issued for data analysis to explore the status of undergraduate speciality identity and learning engagement of independent colleges and the relationship between them.The research results show that:(1)The overall score of speciality identity of undergraduates in independent colleges is 3.38,which is in the medium level.The scores of each dimension of speciality identity are all higher than the theoretical average by 3 points,from high to low:emotionality>cognition>behavior>fitness,and the scores of cognition and emotionality are both higher than the average score of speciality identity.(2)There are significant differences in the speciality identity of undergraduates in independent colleges in terms of gender,major,monthly family income,major choice,major prospect,major learning conditions,academic performance and whether students are cadres.There was no significant difference in grade,family location,parents' higher education,and whether they had internships or part-time jobs related to their majors.(3)The overall score of learning engagement of undergraduates in independent colleges is 4.16,which is in the medium level.The scores of each dimension of learning engagement from high to low are as follows:motivation>concentration>energy,and the score of motivation is higher than the average score of total learning engagement,while the score of energy dimension is lower than the theoretical average.(4)There are significant differences in the learning engagement of undergraduates in independent colleges in gender,major,parents' higher education,monthly family income,major choice and academic performance.There was no significant difference in grade and family location.(5)The four dimensions of speciality identity,cognition,emotionality,behavior and fitness were positively correlated with learning engagement and the three dimensions of learning engagement,motivation,energy and concentration.The behavior,fitness and cognition of speciality identity have significant positive predictive effects on learning engagement,and the combination can explain the variation of 35%of learning engagement.The above findings can serve for the improvement of independent colleges and the quality of education in China,and provide reference for relevant research.
